Actions of all living creatures including humans, animlas and birds

have single purpose all the time. How to exist and become happy.

Knowing that life is limited, everyone wants to live eternally

through offsprings. To investigate this issue, University of

California (author not sure about name), Dept of Psychology conducted

an experiment with the collaboration of Biosciences Dept, half a

century ago. Messages on Diabetese in N. Y. times and a similar one

in 'Secrets_Revealed' list (message no. 411) brought to the memory

this old research. Whereas a

holistic healer would have applied the conclusions of this experiment

to all population, modern science, due to its reductionist and

evidence based approach took such a long time to recognize Diabetes.

A large cage containing very healthy mice, more females than males,

was kept in a room with controlled temperature and purity of

air. The cage was provided excess food liked by mice. They were fed

non-vegetarian items also. For reference, this cage was `affluent'

society. Another cage containing similar and equal number of mice was

kept outside the building but in shade, less female mice, food just

sufficient. This is `middle class society' for reference.

After a month or so, the scientists observed that the affluent

society was spending time nicely, eating much more food than other

society, they had put

up slight weight and looked happy. Their sex frequency noted

increased with wider choice available. The middle class society was

struggling to keep alive and slightly lost weight. They were fighting

with each other for food, sex. So, decision to increase the food

slightly was taken. despite this, as population too had increased.

After another month, the affluent socity seemed obese and their sex

frequency had decreased. Some children

were born, the food/sex seemed adequate, so no fights. In middle

class society, population had grown, so food was increased to account

new population. The population seemed slim and happy, despite some

fights for food and sex. Children used to play with each other and

parents. They were learning the struggle for existence.

After another month, the affluent society population seemed constant.

Scientists were surprised. It appeared that the obesity, less

mobility due to heavy body and loss of libido/capability for sex had

made many mice depressed/aggressive and to derive some sadistic

pleasure they were killing their own newborn. This change from usual

five star food fed by scientists gave them some relief from the

boredom. Nothing to do. How to kill time?

Middle class society however, growing more rapidly and noise due to

less food, sex, less living

room, was being recorded by tape recorders. Occasional fights to

protect the food, females and new-born were being recorded by

cameras. But no deaths were noted. On the other hand, population

growth rate was more than normal.

After another month, the affluent society had only few aged mice left

with no capability to grow the population. The experiment was stopped

in another month, when they too died.

Can we suspect that Diabetes does not recognise species, religion,

country, sex or race? It perhaps recognizes affluence well.

Author read about this research in a book written by Father Wallace,

a missionary, nearly thirty years ago. Father Wallace liked India so

much, that he never went back. His books are published in Gujarati

language.
