Guest guest
Hi! My name is Marcangelo, and I just joined this list. I am a botanist and educator, who has always had an interest in fragrance. WHile I used to dabble in natural perfumery, of late I have moved into the realm of natural incense creation, based on traditional Japanese recipes and methods. What this basically means is that the incense is built up entirely from herbs, roots, resins, barks, leaves, etc. with no essential oils, tinctures. extracts, etc.. This is not a judgement for or against the use of oils, rather it is just one particular way to approach creating incense. Anyway, this is a tricky art, as many of the ingredients traditionally used in these mixtures are harsh unless properly blended with other materials. This is true for many essential oils used in perfumery as well, as I'm sure you know. My incense work is entirely a hobby - I do this for pleasure and to enhance my meditation practice. Many traditional Japanese incense mixtures have long traditions as complements to meditation, and as I am Buddhist, this combination is a natural and advantageous one. Aloeswood in particular is a substance well suited to meditation, and with a truly wonderful scent in its finer grades. Anyway, that's my intro. I look forward to sharing with and learning from the members of this group! -Marcangelo (AKA " Marco " ) Puccio
