Guest guest
Pine: Well, the risks for tetanus from your guitar are probably minimal, but let me put it this way... I personally believe that a person should have a tetanus toxoid injection about once a decade. Let me emphasize this... YOU CANNOT GET TETANUS FROM A VACCINE. People used to die horribly from tetanus. Do you know what that is? The other name for tetanus is " lockjaw " , and that is what happens; the body goes into a full state of tetany, or muscular spasm, and the jaw locks. It is an ugly way to expire, and by the time it progresses to that point there may be no way to reverse it. About a third of people who contract tetanus die from it. Tetanus tends to be more prevalent when you get a puncture type wound, usually from something that has been on or in the ground or is dirty, such as a bite, a rusty nail, a piece of broken glass, a sharp stone, a root, a knife, a tool, etc. One of the articles I have posted below includes a mention of a woman who contracted it from a sewing needle. The tetanus bacteria is anerobic, meaning it breeds in absence of air, deep in the wound. Here are a couple of websites to read about tetanus and tetanus toxoid vaccine. Choose for yourself, of course, but please read the information and don't make an uninformed decision about your health. http://www.nfid.org/factsheets/tetanusadult.html http://www.fda.gov/fdac/features/696_tet.html Take care of yourself, Crow > " pine " <pine > > > tetanus >Tue, 20 Mar 2001 08:51:35 +0200 > >may i ask again for your advice? > >the doctor in the clinic told me to have anti-tetanus >but i refused - because i felt it would be too much burden for the immune >system. i am also having common cold now. > > >the wood is a piece of my guitar and the the beginning i tried to >dig the piece with unsterilized needle. > >do you think i should do the anti-tetanus vaccine? > > _______________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com
