Guest guest
If it were me I would check out http://www.zhealthinfo.com/doctor.htm#ProTrac for an herbal alternative. Another good herb is Siberian Ginseng extract. The dry extract is better than the plain dried herb. Guest guest
We have to be cautious in stating that herbs work the same way as pharmaceutical drugs. There really is no herb that can substitute for Paxil, including the Ginsengs. Herbal remedies are best " prescribed " after a comprehensive assessment by a qualified practitioner. It is only after such an assessment can we determine which herbal remedies may be of benefit in correcting imbalances. If someone is suffering from depression, it's important to address the cause of imbalance first and foremost. While Ginseng, St. John's Wort and other " nervines " and " tonics " may be beneficial for such disorders, they do not work in the same fashion as pills. In other words, a lot more info is needed before herbs can be recommended. The first thing to do is to " let go " of the notion that herbs can be prescribed like pills. Herbs work slowly and are not quick fixes. I would not stop taking a prescription drug for depression, either, without first consulting with my physician. Guest guest
Mynou has a wonderful post on SJW, with it's side effects, studies etc. Although SJW has been used for centuries with apparent no harm and great success in depressions, melancholy, it's very very important to understand that with all the potent drugs we have nowadays interactions that might not be safe can happen. Not just with SJW but ALL herbal or even essential oils that we take. It's just a different ballgame.. Years ago when my heart condition first surfaced, I asked the cardiologist that attended me if I could keep on taking herbs. His answer was to take all the herbs I wanted with a smirk on his face.. Needless to say he is not my cardio guy anymore.. It's simple: herbs are medicine allopathic drugs are medicine EO's are medicine You mix any of them up, you better know what you are doing!! For people to go cold turkey of mindaltering drugs is a dangerous thing to do and SJW might not be the right thing to replace it. Both take their time to go in and out of a person's system, those things need to be supervised. Find a good Doc that understands those things and work with him.
