Guest guest
There is a chance that you could be allergic to the oil you are using, however, there is a better chance that you are not using pure therapeutic quality oils. Another problem is diffusing oils constantly. They should only be diffused 15 to 20 minutes at a time. You could be cleansing too fast. Mostly lurk here, but I thought I might comment on this..... It's quite possible for anyone to react to almost anything..... Example......I've never had a reaction to any essential oil I've used/diffused..... But at work, I can't remain in the Loctite aisle in the warehouse for more than a minute or two without having to scratch as if I've suddenly gotten a dose of hyperactive fleas....goes away a few minutes after leaving the aisle.... And a certain person in the office has a perfume that makes my eyes water every time she applies is, and she's a couple of cubicles away.... And no....the perfume is not made by Loctite......<G>..... What you might wind up having to do, is to try to isolate which EO is giving you the reaction.....ya might try a patch test..... Figuring out what's what can be kinda important.....if you have become sensitized (reaction wise) to one kind of EO......you might find yourself reacting to apparently unrelated other EO's also....(because what you're reacting to is also a component of those other EO's).... Some EO's are notorious sensitizers (and this is related to maybe, but *different* from being an irritant....)......and there are folks who can become sensitized to things that are not normally " sensitizers " ..... And some folks with Rhino hides and constitutions aren't bothered by much of anything......and that can change, too.....(never had a problem with Loctite until one year I had to count the inventory...spent too much time in that aisle, I guess....) Because of all of the different natures of folks....there are no completely hard and fast rules..... So.....best thing to do, is try and figure out which EO (if any) is causing the mysterious rash..... -- Gary W. Guest guest
Dear Laurie, Gary's comments are right on. It would be unusual to react to such a small dose of diffused oils, but it is possible. I believe I have heard of a case of sensitization to a diffused oil before, can't remember the details, though. If you wish, you can try a 'patch test' with a 10% dilution of the suspect EO in a vegetable oil. Apply a small amount to your inner forearm or brestbone. You do not need to cover. See what occurs after 24 - 48 hours... Best Regards, Ron Guba - Gary W. Guest guest
Hi Thanks for the responses. To clarify a little, I started using the oils on my Dr.'s recommendation to help clear up a cold. He recommended using Cinnamon and Eucalyptus. So I started using them with the diffuser. Every two weeks or so I tried some new ones. I really enjoyed the rich smells, especially in the dead of winter, so I decided to try some other oils. I got a book about the different nature of the oils and what they are used for. I later added on Clary Sage and Wild Chamomile. Then, Patchouli. Later on Geranium and Rosewood. Except for the Patchouli, all the oils are 100% Pure Essential Oils - brand name is Aura Cacia. The Patchouli Oil is Aveda's and includes coconut oil, patchouli oil, mixed tocopherol(antioxident). One of the other messages said that I may have been diffusing too much. I was looking in the two books I have and didn't find much detail about recommended practices for diffusing. The rash came after I used the Patchouli. So how often should you diffuse? I've been putting a few drops in some water and then waiting until it evaporates.
