Sort-of Aromatherapy: Guided meditation

Hi all,

I am interested in recording an audio cassette for myself for use in guided

meditation/self-hypnosis (the - admittedly somewhat tenuous - AT link being

the burning of nice oils while doing so). Has anyone got any experience of

doing this? What sort of things should I include, how long should it take,

are there any special phrases which seem to 'work' more effectively than

others?

Grateful as ever for any light anyone can shed.

Sue, before you make a tape you need to determine what you want to

accomplish. If it is strictly for meditation, then the tape should only be

used for relaxing the body, as the main goal of meditation is to eliminate

all thought from the mind. If it is for self-hypnosis, then your tape could

be anywhere from 20 minutes to 1.5 hours depending on the count-down and

what changes you want to make.

Many people use music in the background and if you do, it should probably be

ocean or nature sounds, classical music with 4 beats to the bar, or other

appropriate music without vocals. You should use a monotone voice or as

close as you can get to one. You start by relaxing every part of your body

individually. Most people start at the toes and work up to the head. I

prefer to start at the head and work down because I want my brain relaxed at

the beginning. Always speak in the present tense as in; the fingers on my

left hand are relaxing....now. The use of the word " now " is very powerful

and should be used often. The relaxation part can take up to 20 minutes.

If it is a meditation your tape would end there, or at least the voice

portion, and you would continue with your meditation for at least another 20

minutes. If it is to accomplish change in your life, then the tape would be

a little different and would continue with commands for the change you want

to accomplish. During the count-down (relaxation) you would interject

phrases like " I am going deeper and deeper into hypnosis " . After the

count-down you still want to bring yourself deeper and you can accomplish

this by seeing yourself go deeper by going down an escalator or anything

else that you have no fear of. I like to swim so I see myself going deep

under the water and being able to breathe. Don't forget to repeat the above

phrase while you are doing this (on the tape).

To accomplish the change in your life use all positive phrases in the

present tense. Spend some time writing those out and try to keep them short

and to the point. If you wanted to become a vegetarian you might use phrases

like; " I only eat vegetarian foods " and work another 5 phrases around that

theme like; " I eat asparagus on a regular basis " . Never use the negative

phrase like " I don't do this or that " . If you are trying to change more than

one thing in your life, work on one until it is accomplished, then work on

the next one. Don't forget to count yourself up out of the hypnosis with

something like this; " At the count of 5 I will be fully awake, completely

relaxed, refreshed, and energized " . As you count, repeat the phrase.

It is always a good idea to protect yourself with the White light before

going into an altered state as in that state your mind is open to attack

from unfriendly entities.

Sorry this is rather long, but it is impossible to give detailed

instructions and keep it short. If you need further help, feel free to email

me off list.

Pat.
