Oregano and Sinusitis

Hi folks,

I think Dr. Vivian hit the nail on the head here. For too many years, I

had 2 or 3 sinus infections a year. As I was a military man, they were

all treated with the slow-acting antibiotics. But the sinus infections

always came back. Around mid-1995, one of the professors here in Turkey

introduced me to Origanum and I began using it for sinus infections. I

was cured and they didn't come back - haven't had once since then!

What I learned from this is that I had not had a number of sinus

infections - I had only one and it was recurring - chronic. It was

never really cured until I began to use the oregano EO.

It was not until early 1996 that I got into production and export of EO.

I was totally ignorant of the bennies when I began using the oregano.

Today, I and my employees, friends and loved ones are true believers of

the benefits of self-medication with natural products. More than one of

my employees has been cured of chronic problems - migraines, sinus

congestion/headaches and insomnia. One of my ladies had chronic strep

for years - a couple of times a year - but no longer.

I think we have to decide if we want to treat the symptons of chronic

problems or get to the root of the problem and kick some butt. I have

made my decision in that regard and I'd recommend other folks consider

doing the same. Prescribed or even OTC antibiotics (available here in

Turkey) are not the answer to long-term good health - they weaken the

immune system and allow the bug that got you down to easily return.

I haven't taken an antibiotic or any prescription or OTC drugs (except

aspirin and antacids) since mid-1996 and I am as healthy as I have ever

been in my younger life. I drink and smoke when I want to (which is

often), work a normal 100-110 hour week and eat and sleep as I want to.

I think my diet works in my favor as we don't eat canned crap here in

Turkey - I don't own a can opener. My company maid/cook shops each

morning and fixes a fresh hot meal for me and my employees daily. We

eat little meat - lots of fresh fruits, vegetables, whole-grain bread,

yoghurt, olive oil, raw onions and garlic - the typical Med diet and one

that I could not find in the USA unless I were to marry again and it's

just not worth the effort.

I guess I can say that I now have the immune system of a cochroach or a

great white shark. I owe this to everything but clean living - I think

it is a result of avoiding other than natural medicines and eating the

diet I've described above. We also have a natural medication here that

is a co-distilled product, anise seed and grapes - the national drink of

Turkey. Raki, similar to Greek Ouzo or Arabic Arak. It's clear until

you add water - then it turns milky. That's one of the two reasons it's

called Lion's Milk - the other reason is because when you first start

drinking it, you feel like a lion - later, you act like a donkey ... ;-)

Personally I would not touch Oregano (Origanum vulgare) at all.

It is a powerful emmenagogue, which rules it out if you are pregnant, and

also a fairly severe skin irritant. One of its worst properties is that it

is a very severe irritant to mucous membranes, so using it for sinus

problems would be like looking for a gas leak with a naked light. Far better

to use Marjoram (Origanum majorana).

For sinusitis I would use frequent steam inhalations 4-6 times a day.

E.O's would be Eucalyptus, Lavender,Peppermint,Pine, Thyme or Tea Tree.

If there is a lot of pain use a mix of Lavender and Thyme.

For stuffiness use Eucalyptus,Peppermint and Pine.

Tea Tree as a powerful antiseptic can be mixed with these.

You could also try using garlic in your food, this decongests, disinfects and

detoxifies the system.

Good luck.
