I'm away behind on digests, so I hope I'm not asking something that's

been addressed too recently.

I'd like to help my MIL with tremors. They haven't called it

Parkinson's yet, but haven't ruled it out completely either. The

oils that I saw that could be used were: sweet basil, nutmeg, sweet

margoram, lemon, bergomont, geranium, and sweet orange.

Does anyone have a 'recipe' to share? How many drops? And would I

need all or some of these listed? I have part of them on hand, but

would have to get the others.

Thanks in advance - a private email would be nice, since I've been on

digest for awhile :)

Hi,

Parkinson's disease presents differently in each person. Some people

experience tremors on one side of the body, some both, others develop

rigidity in the trunk and limbs. The later stages can be characterized by a

flat facial expression, slurred speech, and a shuffling gait (as the

person's ability to use muscles voluntarily becomes impaired). There is a

link between depression and Parkinson's disease.

Having worked with several individuals with Parkinson's disease and

non-specific tremors (I'm an occupational therapist at a skilled nursing

facility), I will say that essential oils aren't going to do much, in of

themselves, to improve tremors. However, full body aromatherapy massage can

promote relaxation in Parkinson's sufferers. In fact, studies have shown

massage to be of great benefit to those with Parkinson's disease, so adding

essential oils to the massage, in my opinion, is extremely logical and

beneficial.

The choice of oils, as with any person, really depends on the situation. I

have actually never been 100% comfortable saying " this oil is good for..... "

since oils are not really cures but are supportive in cases of chronic

illness. Since your goal is to help relaxation and promote sleep in many

cases (the tremors can be very frustrating and some people with Parkinson's

suffer from insomnia and depression), be sure to choose oils that your MIL

likes. Oils with antispasmodic and nervine effects may be of benefit.

Also, you can make a nice body rub or bath blend for her to use daily, if

massage is something she isn't open to or cannot afford.

best wishes,

Amy

There is a recipe for Nerve Sedative in the files that would help. The cause behind the tremors is still an unknown. What is your diet like?

[herbal remedies] Tremors

I have suffered many years with tremors in my hands. A MD told me I had senility tremor that would get worse with age. Well, I am 37 now and it is getting noticably worse. The doctor said there is no cure, but prescribed Xanax to help them but all it does is make me sleepy. Is there any herbal remedies to help with tremors.Federal Law requires that we warn you of the following: 1. Natural methods can sometimes backfire. 2. If you are pregnant, consult your physician before using any natural remedy. 3. The Constitution guarantees you the right to be your own physician and toprescribe for your own health. you could try Hops, Scullcap, Passion flower, Valerian root, and Spirulina. Also cayenne is good for circulation.
