Guest guest
Dear Jean, Greetings! I certainly hope that you did not feel that I was giving you a hard time. Please, if you got that idea - it is really not my intention! I responded primarily because a report of a case of anaphylactic shock due to an EO has never been reported before - and if true - really should be known. Conversely (and much more likely to be the case), if the report has been over-exxagerated or mis-reported, this also should be determined and responded to. Otherwise, it becomes another example of a " Toxicity Myth " , that goes further ahead in giving the intelligent use of EO's a " bad reputation " that they do not at all deserve. Hence, I really hope that we can hear more about the actual report - and to whom we may reply. My Best Regards, Ron Guba - Pendlestone <pstone Aromatherapy List Thursday, August 03, 2000 5:05 PM [AX] reaction > Will certainly phone AOC when I get the time during the day........ some day. As I said, I have only repeated info given by the RCN speaker at conference. I personally am not stupid & have read a lot ........ inc. Ron's articles, & would be happy to use oils in hospitals .....indeed feel that MRSA would be greatly reduced by the use of tea tree soap etc. However I stand by my assertion that nurses who use oils in hospital should have a good level of knowledge & competence, & there should be guidelines / protocols for their protection, & the safety & protection of patients. Maybe your countries are more open minded, less litigious, less blaming of nurses in the case of complaint. I know the ethos of many UK hospitals & management. I WANT to see AT & other therapies used more........ but in order for that to happen you don't need to preach to the converted...... just ensure that the systems are in place to enable them to be practised by competent & safe practitioners, not well-meaning dabblers. > > Regards > JEAN > >

I felt I'd been, overall, making a valid point about the safe use of oils in hospitals, & the desire to use them with safeguards for the nurse-aromatherapists that are keen to see them used, & also in reply to those who say most nurses prefer the smells of petro chemicals. Just that there are reasons why they are used, eg COSSH. I tend to read these messages after night duty, & apologise for being at my tiredest & grumpiest at that time !!! < I really hope that we can hear more about the actual report - and to >whom we may reply. >The authors of the report as I stated were Fowler & Wall, Comp. Therapies in Nursing & Midwifery,1996. I can try to find their current whereabouts if you so wish.
