Guest guest
Scent for Thought By Kimberly Ayers Do you find yourself being so busy that you're forgetting to do things you normally wouldn't forget to do? Have problems focusing in a business meeting? Studied hours and hours for a test and then when it came time to take the test, you just drew a blank on what you had studied? Then you may want to consider the use of scent for remembrance! Think about it. When you smell chocolate chip cookies baking, are you taken back to your grandmother's kitchen? Does Vicks Vapor rub bring back memories of your mother rubbing the smelly salve on your chest as a child when you had a cold? How about freshly cut grass? I'm always reminded of hot summer days following my grandfather around the back yard while he cut the lawn. With the use of one or two essential oils you can help train yourself to remember what you've been forgetting and to be a little more clear on what you just can't seem to focus on. The essential oil most used to help with the memory is Rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis) " Rosemary for Remembrance " was a popular saying in the Victorian era. Lovers and friends would give each other sprigs of Rosemary so one would not forget the other. The easiest way to use this oil is to inhale the aroma from either the bottle it comes in, or by applying a few drops of the essential oil upon a handkerchief and inhaling it. One could also use a diffuser to spread the scent into their environment as well. When you are studying, making your list of things to do, or just making a conscious thought to do something, inhale the Rosemary. When it is time to take your test, remember something off of your list or something you know you were supposed to do, inhale your Rosemary again. Note: Rosemary is not recommended if you have epilepsy. Stuck at your desk or in a business meeting and you just can't seem to get focused on what's at hand? Try inhaling Grapefruit essential oil (Citrus paradisi). Grapefruit is also known to be an anti- depressant as well as anti-anxiety, which can sometimes add to what may be interfering with your concentration at work. A ceramic diffuser on your desk works wonders! Spearmint (Mentha viridas) is another fabulous oil to keep with you wherever you go as it is categorized as a memoristic anti-depressant essential oil. Keep a small vial of the Spearmint oil handy and whenever you need a quick pick-me-up, inhale the sweet aroma deeply. When inhaled, Spearmint can help to relieve mental strain, fatigue and most of all, cheer you up!
