Hello All- In my post regarding the use of straight " neat " essential oils I had stated that certain essential oils could aggrivate certain ailments - not that they was guaranteed to do so. My personal opinon is that I firmly believe that until more solid and controlled research is done, (on real people with real ailments) it is better to be safe than sorry. While other practitioners have used essential oils that have cautions regarding certain ailments and had no adverse effects - is this luck or can the results be taken straight across the board for everyone because one person had no adverse effect? If an essential oil being used doesn't effect the pregant mother who is using it and doesn't cause miscarriage, is there an effect upon her unborn child? Some essential oils are classified as haloucinogenics - is there a difference in using these oils as opposed to smoking pot or eating mushrooms while pregnant? I don't know the answer to this, but would certainly not volunteer to be experimented on either. Some of the posts regarding my initial post state that rs of other aromatherapy newsgroups point out that there is no PROOF that the oils don't cause any sort of harm - that what has been printed in all the aromatherapy books is wrong. Personally, before believing all the books are wrong, I'd have to see scientific research to support this claim and wouldn't just believe it because it was posted on a newsgroup. There simply is not enough research on either side of this issue, pro or con. On the flip side, is there documentation that the oils can cause damage? I do not know the answer to that, but now will make it a point to find out. Until more information is made available in solid print on the non-adverse/adverse effects of the oils, I remain safe rather than sorry by sticking to my books and avoiding the oils that " may " cause adverse effects for certain health issues Aromatic regards, Kimberly " Be careful of what you read in health books.
