Guest guest
Hi Nancy- According to Jeanne Rose's Aromatherapy: Applications and Inhalations North Atlantic Books, Berkeley, CA 1992 and 375 Essential Oils, North Atlantic Books, Berkeley, CA 1999 the cedarleaf oil in which you are referring to is actually a quite toxic oil and needs to be used with extreme caution. Thuja occidentalis is mainly Thujone, which is primarily a skin irritant and is somewhat poisonous. This oil is recommended generally as a disinfectant for household cleaning and is not recommended for massage oils or diffusing. Personally I have never smelled the Thuja occidentalis, but if it smells like cedarwood perhaps you may want to try Cedrus atlantica, which is used mainly for aromatherapy purposes, i.e. respiration inhalations, shampoos, soaps, lotions, facial washes, insect repellants, environmental fragrancing, etc. In regard to using Thuja occidentalis to ward off bugs, there are other safe oils to choose from such as: Cedarwood Atlas (Cedrus atlantica) Basil Citronella Clove Eucalyptus Geranium Lemon Lemongrass Orange Peppermint Hope this helps!
