Guest guest
I have been especially fond of lavender eo and have been buying lavendula angustifolia. Recently I picked up a bottle of lavender, lavandin and spike lavender blended eo. It has a much fuller and complete scent. Do all lavenders have similar properties? I really like the blend but I wondered if it could be used in the same way that the angustifolia can be used. Any advise? Thanks! Guest guest
In response to michelles question about different types of Lavender Where to start there are so many.!!! Lavandula angustifolia is known as true lavender. Lavendin is a hybrid and has many varieties, it is used to adulterate true lavender and may be sold as true L by unscrupalous merchants! It is actually a cross btw true L and spike L (which is a different species!) It is strong and cheaper so good for use in soap and perfumes. True lavender comes from 3 species L. officinalis L. Vera L. angustifolia Lavender population is derived from the seeds of these plants. Spike lavender has a camphoraceous aroma. Simply lavender angustifolia is the type favoured for aromatherapy use, Lavendin has a sharper aroma but is considered therapeutically inferior to " true " lavender oil. Hope that helps Nerys Australia
