Guest guest
Sherri Re your sister taking prozac, I would personally recommend St John's Wort capsules, available from Holland & Barrett (UK) or any other health shop. They work very similar to prozac but of a more natural anti-depressant. There are more books becoming available on this herb now and I have seen a couple in the book stores. I hope this is of some use and you could persuade your sister to take this instead. It looks like she is getting no rest at all when we need it at most when we retire. She must feel extrememly exhausted. Regards Karen (UK)
Guest guest
Thank you Karen for answering. Unfortunately, she's already tried St John's Wort without enough effect and is leary about going off Prozac again to try another suggestion from me. I was leaning toward SAME, actually. She did try the SleepytimeXtra tea and said that she thinks it helped.
Guest guest
It's probably not a good idea to switch from prozac to St. John's Wort unless the doctor approves. St. John's Wort is not the same. Prozac though, has it's own problems and I understand it is not always a good choice as an antidepressant. Not being able to sleep is a natural part of depression and it needs to be controlled. Serzone is an antidepressant that can be prescribed to take the full dose at bedtime because it will allow one to get some rest. And don't forget the warm milk. There is an excellent site on the web about depression. I believe the add is http://wingsofmadness.net If that's not correct, then type in wings of madness on a search engine and it will bring the site up. It is filled with valuable info for those suffering from depression and those who are the support system for them. A good book to read is " Darkness Visible " by William Styron. It is excellent to take one thru the path of depression. Real clinical depression is not understood except by those who have it. People who do not suffer from it cannot fathom the darkness, the loss of soul, the need and desire to loose oneself in Enigma music and they certainly do not understand the " self absorption " which is needed to see the daylight again. Depression is not something to take lightly. People suffering from this to tend to see the glass as half empty, but remember our artists, writers and composers, many of whom suffered or suffer from this disease. The beauty comes from the constant need to fill the glass. Poetry, music, beautiful art flows from this desire.
