Lavender 40/42 refers to a combination of natural lavender oils(and or synthetic chemicals- linalyl acetate, linalool) to produce one with linalyl acetate and linalool that approches 40/42 % standard. Oregon Lavender is again where it is grown. They will all have a different scent! Some Lavenders that are grown in higher altitudes has a finer scent...ect Hope this helps <) Best Regards, Dianna/Inner Sanctuary of Healing
Guest guest
Thanks Dianna for the info. What is really confusing me is in my research I'm finding some are Lavender officinalis and some are Lavender angustifolia. The French, Bulgarian and Oregon Lavenders making reference to where they are grown explains a lot. But, now which is better for aromatherapy? Lavende r officinalis or Lavender angustifolia? I've seen both listed in AT books. What is the difference between these two? Thanks, Miriam
Guest guest
Miriam Lavender angustifolia FAMILY Lamiacea (Labiatae) SYNONYMS `L. vera`, `L. officinalis`, garden lavender, common lavender OTHER SPECIES There are many varieties of lavender; `L. angustifolia` is divided into two subspecies - `L. delphinensis` & `L. fragrans`. French lavender (`L. stoechas`) is a smaller shrub with dark violet flowers Hope this helps, Amwandi, ~ Linda

Guest guest
Hi, I have read the replies to the lavender question but found them not detailed enough. I would like to direct those interested to my special lavender pages (history, botanicals, HCRG's etc...) that I made available for all on the AGORA pages, but do not recall if this is allowed on this list, as the URL's were removed from my last reply here on the list, about Vitex oil. I can also provide a lavender txt, but it would be quit long, and you do not have the pictures of course. Just some thoughts, Michel Vanhove (just back from France)
