Guest guest
Here's a quick question for you all....I've been doing some reading about aromatherapy and almost every single one of the texts say never take EO's internally. I remember though seeing a couple of posts here that suggested just that. I'm wondering what your experiences with that have been and when it's a good idea and when it's not. Thanks for your help! Guest guest
Dear Tracy, Here's my experience. I love to take oils like Lemon, Peppermint, Thieves and put them into water and just drink it throughout the day. It's refreshing and I feel like I'm doing me a favor. I use a drop of either Thieves or Clove in water to rinse my mouth after brushing ( if I'm out of the YL mouthwash). I also use a drop or two of Oregano in some tomatoe juice - kind of like a mini raindrop therapy inside! Many of the YL oils are also food grade so that means that they are qualified to be taken internally. The problem is that most of the books on the market are targeting the standard essential oils, not the quality that YL puts out. Happy Holidays! Lynn Tracy J. Usually in the books that Tracy is mentioning it also says not to use oils internally or not to use them unless under the supervision of a trained aromatherapist...That's because a trained aromatherapist will know which oils can ruin the insides of your stomach and which ones won't...I certainly wouldn't go around dosing my insides on a daily basis with any oil and I am sure I can tell you that others with any training wouldn't either....Oregano is a very strong oil and contains a phenol called carvacrol which can cause serious damage if not used correctly...being sure that you are even using the right oregano oil in the first place (origanum vulgare) and that it must be diluted in at least 50% Olive oil and THEN add a drop or two to milk..not water...oil and water do NOT mix..and if you had decided to take it that way it would be important to do it for just a day or two...NOT every day...People have also been known to take peppermint occasionally to quell an upset stomach, BUT they dilute it in milk or honey added to tea....But then again Lynn says she is using YL oils and that most of them are Food Grade...Food Grade oils are about the cheapest type you can get...In fact I just made some peppermint patties for my son for Christmas using Food Grade Oil, otherwise known as Peppermint Extract from the grocery store...cost me a whole 2.00....A lot of companies will sell these type of oils trying to pass them off as superior oils when in reality they are the bottom of the barrel when it comes to Essential Oils...that is why it is soooooooo important to buy from a reputable dealer that only sells 100% Pure Essential oils..Please be very careful anyone who wishes to take oils internally...find out the facts and don't settle for hearsay...Ask a certified aromatherapist who is selling top quality oils...Just don't believe everything someone tells you as gospel truth....check it out...especially when you are talking about such an important topic as your life Sharron Certified Aromatherapist --
