Tracy's cold, Aromatherapy and Christanity

Tracy, now that you have your cold, fairly large amounts of vit C,

Echinacea, Goldenseal, and other herbs can cut down the time it lasts. (of

course, by the time you evaluate all of the advise you have gotten, your

cold will be over) In the last couple of weeks, either here or in a book I

read of an EO that aids production in the body of a substance that helps

fight viruses, but for the life of me I can't remember which (the same that

is aided by the Echinacea). I have used vit C for years and now have added

the herbs when I first feel that taletale beginning of a sore throat, 90% of

the time I don't get sick. Besides the supplements, I take the most

horrible tasting tincture of Echinacea and Goldenseal three times daily. I

do this only when a cold is coming or present, don't feel comfortable doing

it as a preventative measure.

EO's and Christanity- after the Dark Ages, and the destruction of the

library at Alexandria, knowledge of distilling EO's in the Western World was

pretty much limited to monasteries (the Benedictine monks made more than

brandy). Supposedly, the monks had extensive knowledge of healing with EO's

and herbs, and they knew what we (those interested in aromatherapy and

herbal healing) are just re-learning, God provided us with everything we

need. (Thank you Melanie and StaceyB)

Coinciding with " physician " becoming a more popular (and profitable)

profession, in the 15-1600's, natural healing became gradually associated

with " paganism " (no offense) and " witchcraft " (no offense), and the " modern

methods " were considered " true " medicine. (Doesn't sticking medicinal grade

leeches that are only available to MD's to your body make more sense than

drinking an herbal tea made from a plant in your backyard?)

Fortunitely for you guys outside of the states, your medical communities

have " seen the light " , but here in the states, with the AMA and the

extremely powerful pharmacutical industry seeing billions of $$$ potentially

lost, it will be at least a couple of generations before MD's in this

country will seriously and regularly consider natural healing. I personally

expect the FDA (whose scientists were trained in the same schools as the

people in the industry they oversee) to seriously attempt to try to regulate

herbal supplements and EO's. (they already are trying, just not that

seriously)

Sorry for making you sit through a history lesson, thought it might be

interesting to those just coming on board.

Hi Frank,

You couldn't have put the US situation more clearly. I agree that our friends

in other parts of the world are more fortunate - but I learned within this past

year that even Germany, who once was so strong in natural methods of healing,

have been turning to more of a US way of practicing medicine. Very sad,

especially since I had a friend who was able to get all kinds of wonderful

herbs, tinctures and oils for us. :( A prayer that I hold towards this

industry goes like this: may they all be blessed with the mind/consciousness of

healing the ailments of mankind and that this mind is, at least, as important

as the profits they create. I remember many people praying for the wall to

come down in East Germany. I'm of the age that I wasn't sure I'd live to see

it. But in the blink of an eye, it did come down. The same can be true for

anything that we choose to focus our intentions upon.

And not my 'sermon' :) is done. Frank, I'd also like to share that I always

appreciate your participation. Don't always agree ( :) ) but am glad that

you're here!

Wishing you well in all ways,

Lynn
