Guest guest
Hi Tracy In the course I'm doing at the moment I've learnt that Tea Tree oil is good for sunburn and minor burns and can be put directly on the skin. Just dab a bit on the inside of your elbow to test it first. Don't know if it would be enough for 2nd degree burns. Lavender or Niaouli has also been suggested (dab gently on the burn area) Apparently dabbing honey on the area can also help. That's a weird one eh!!? Eucalyptus would be great for your cold in a blend with tea tree, cinnamon and thyme. Hope you feel better soon. I wanted to put lavender but am too chicken to experiment on myself. Has anyone actually used lavender on a 2nd degree burn? On top of it I'm coming down with a cold. My brain is not functioning cause of the Tylenol 3. Can someone tell me an few oil to diffuse so it will stop this cold!!! Hi Tracy.... The time I used Lavender on a burn it wasn't second degree (no blistering) ......soothed it down and relieved the pain immediately.....If you're taking the Tylenol 3 for pain from the burn I'm guessing it's prescribed for a fairly serious type burn and I would follow the medical advice you're getting.... As far as fighting the cold..... Well....since you're feeling it coming on, you already have the virus... An EO to diffuse for anti-viral properties isn't gonna do much for ya, because you already have the little bugger in your system..... Diffused anti-viral EO's do their thing against the baddies before they get to you.... Eucalyptus (most kinds), Pine needle, Ravensara aromatica and Myrtle will help with some of the symptoms......you might try inhaling some Oregano EO (and again, most any kind, high in carvocrol) to help cut through it.... I think these might give your immune system a boost to help fight it off..... You should probably increase your fluid intake (for *both* problems here) and rest.....I would also increase my intake of Vitamin C....I know there's controversy about that in the research, but it seems to me that when I have a cold, my body is crying out for the stuff...(I'm partial to oranges and lemons....). For record.....Vitamin C is *not* present in the distilled citrus EO's.....but maybe in the Cold Pressed ones....? The idea with Aromatherapy is that we use our good buddies the EO's to work in conjunction with what our bodies already do when in a state of dis-ease...... -- Gary Bourbonais L'Hermite Aromatique
Guest guest
Tracy - so sorry about your accident and cold. Ice for the burn and maybe a drop or two of lavender. It does work. I've also used liquid sea algae with lavender in it. But got for the ice first. Anytime you get a burn in the kitchen, open freezer and grab the ice. It works wonders. Then try to put some topical neosporin on it. That will help stop infection. And if there is any way possible since it is in a sensitive place, leave it open to the air as much as possible. The cold? The ususal - a hot toddy with tea and lemon and some whiskey or brandy if you want. Sore throat? Gargle with salt water. Try diffusing eucalyptus if you can. Inula is another to just smell and diffuse. A warm bath in ginger powder may help you sweat some of this out. A tablespoon or so of powdered ginger from the kitchen and into your bath water is what I use. And do take care. Karen
Guest guest
Hi Tracy Ouch! That sounds really sore. I hope you got medical attention. Then you can use essential oils and carriers to prevent scarring. For carriers, you can use hypericum lotion (St John's wort) or Rescue Remedy cream mixed with some calendula infused oil and/or wheatgerm. If you have it, Calophyllum Inophyllum is really the best for burns. Then add lavender essential oil in the amount of 50 drops to 50ml carrier (this is a high concentration, but you'll only use it for a short time). Take Rescue Remedy orally too (not the cream! but the flower remedy), that'll help the shock. For the cold, take one drop of ravensara in honey mixed with lemon juice and hot water, and some echinacea. Put a drop of eucalyptus on each side of your pillow, plenty of vitamin C (I mean 2000mg spread out over a day) and go to bed! Good luck Helen in Cape Town
Guest guest
> Apparently dabbing honey on the area can >also help. That's a weird one eh!!? Weird, and also false. Please do NOT put honey on burns. The immediate treatment for burns is cold water, cold water, cold water, cold water, cold water, cold water and more cold water. This cold water can be applied externally, and with caution, also taken internally in small sips (providing the water doesn't contribute to the nausea caused by shock). Thereafter, preferably after medical assessment, one can decide whether to treat using iodine paste or essential oils. I am allergic to iodine therefore I go the essential oil route. Tree trea oil prevents the infections (as does the iodine) and the lavender prevents or reduces the scarring. Both can be applied neat or in high concentrations. Honey is in which some bacteria will thrive, contributing to the problem of infection. Moira de Swardt Using all God's resources.
Guest guest
Hi Moira Thanks for that info ... I *did* think it was a bit strange. Of course I knew about the cold water as an immediate action. The honey was suggested as a soothing thing. I won't be using it though. ) Suzanna Sherlock {Practice random acts of kindness and senseless beauty}
