Guest guest
There are many EO's good for eczema-Balsam de Peru (be careful), bergamot (be careful), white birch, cade, carrot, atlas cedarwood, both chamomiles, helichrysum, hyssop, melissa, pine, sage, yarrow, gerainium, juniper berry, mhyrr, patchouli, rose, rosemary, lavender, thyme. Carriers for dry skin are avocado, rose hip, carrot, and calendula (each of these are usually added in small amounts to other carriers) Calendula flowers can be infused into any carrier (it is very good for dry skin and itching) A salve probably would be better than just an oil, as it leaves more emmolients on the skin surface. Using a handcrafted soap with a blend of a couple of the above EO's should aggrevate the condition much less than the very drying commercially made soaps (thats ALL of them). Hope this helps. Guest guest
Hi Frank and everyone I'd add benzoin. But I'm amazed you'd recommend cade - this is a highly toxic essential oil, particularly the unrectified type which is carcinogenic, and should not be used on damaged skin. My reference is 'Essential Oil Safety' by Tisserand and Balacs. Helen in Cape Town
Guest guest
Thank you, Frank. This is very helpful. I experimented with lavender and patchouli EOs from the tester samples at the health food store. They helped my skin a lot -- but only in combination with the emollient, as you noted. I got one of those natural, herbal skin creams that had other EOs which I didn't need to buy separately. German Chamomile EO does seem to be a wonder from all accounts I've read: among the best for the skin as well as the liver. Somehow, none of the stores in my area have decided to stock it (they only have Ormenis which is not a genuine chamomile), so I am having to mail-order it from one of the major EO wholesalers, the one in Iowa (hint, hint). ;-) --- frank stroupe <fstroupe wrote: > There are many EO's good for eczema-Balsam de Peru (be > careful), bergamot > (be careful), white birch, cade, carrot, atlas cedarwood, > both chamomiles, > helichrysum, > hyssop, melissa, pine, sage, yarrow, gerainium, juniper > berry, mhyrr......
