Guest guest
Hi Bruce and Other List Buds! I agree with everything you say here except one might also include behavior modification techniques, hypnotherapy (yes, by a *certified hypnotherapist),.. but of course NLP (as *I* understand it) is basically a behavior modification technique. Am I " barking up the right tree here " ? Perhaps I'm using the term behaviour modification in too general a sense. (I always tend to think on a more " grand " scale I suppose than most people ... a blessing and a curse :-) > >Given a competent practitioner, it is unlikely that you will still >experience the phobia in a debilitating way if at all after 1 to 3 >sessions. Hmmm, actually, maybe I'd like to hear more about this NLP stuff. Please please do tell us more!!! I guess I am a bit concerned with things that DO effect us on a subconscious level... and I don't think I'm understanding this form of therapy after all. What you say below is VERY interesting and valid and ... > >Possibly of general interest: > >My NLP trainer (one of a very few " master " trainers in the world) believes >that the next major breakthrough in the area of human behaviour will be in >aromatherapy, and he talks in terms of a 30 year time span. (That's one of >the reasons I'm on this list, btw.) I absolutely agree here in certain respects .... due to my medical background however, I think also in terms of physical (but physical simply being that part of " science " that can be measured and researched ... i.e. this eo effective against this pathogenic organism etc.). Holistically speaking, I see *everything* affecting the " whole " (including the physcial) .... and health as a delicate balanced RELATIONSHIP between the body, mind, spirit, emotions, *environment*, people, etc. I am a firm believer in PNI or PNEI research .. (Psychoneuroendoimmunology) and have come across a scant amount of research that involves the sense of smell .. that when used in conjunction with other things, can indeed elicit various physiological responses. NLP examines our " representational >systems " with reference to our senses. Would you please explain " representational systems? Mostly the work has involved V >(visual), A (auditory) and K (kinesthetic). K either includes or ignores >(depending on contest) the two other senses which are named olfactory and >gustatory, so the fuller picture is VAKOG. Olfactory is the only one which >connects directly with the reptilian brain without being intercepted and >processed by another of the body's systems, hence its potential, and >efficacy already as aromatherapists know. Actually, most of the valid research work done with regards to emotions and behavior have been in the realm Aromachology rather than Aromatherapy. (I'm not saying all ... but most). It absolutely DOES stand to reason that *because* the sense of smell is the ONLY one of our senses that links the outside world *directly* (hot wires the brain so to speak) to the inner workings of the brain at *several* levels (the limbic system which controls basic body needs ... on upward to other more advanced parts of our brain). THAT is indeed what fascinates ME the most about essential oils... and aromatherapy in general. This is an area where more research and study holds the greatest potential (in my opinion) ... along with using AT to empower a person through *appropriate* safe, self care *and* help them manage stress (stress from all angles). Warmly Wishing you Joy, Hope, Health and Healing, Susan Renkel, RN/Changes Within Holistic Care Consultant who uses Aromatherapy as *part of a solution for some, rarely the *whole* solution for anyone! Guest guest
I would exercise caution regarding hypnotherapy----- The standard length of time for " certification " is weeks rather than the years it takes to become a decent " Shrink " The " certification " process for hypnotherapy can be very questionable. And vary greatly from " school " to " school. " An aquaintance of mine attended a two weekend " training " and now calls himself a " Board Certified Hypnotherapist " !! Give me a break!!
