You can add anything you want about this oil. I'm just putting down some basics. Adding my two cents ... I would absolutely not recommend Bergamot, pressed peel, to be used on the skin in *any* dilution due to its HIGH PHOTO_TOXIC effects unless it is FCF. IF one wishes to use bergamot in this manner .. it is imperative to use the FCF variety which has the " nasty " photo-toxic stuff removed. Latin Name is Citrus bergamia. Citrus aurantium is different (you get neroli and petitgrain oils from aurantium, depending on what part of the plant you use... and alas, aurantium is a general term for LOTS of hybrids). I guess I don't want to wear out my welcome here on this list and I'm feeling like that is exactly what I'm doing at present. I'm not liking the fact that I've " corrected " a bunch of information that has been given on the list ... I don't like doing it yet ... feel that it is important that true and good information and facts be given. I fear I'm gonna be making a LOT of enemies here if I stick around. THAT is the LAST thing I want to do. I'm very sorry for giving any appearance as a " Ms. Know-it-All " as that is certainly not how I am or feel .... ack .... It is a double edged sword here... and I'm just not wanting to get stabbed or do any " stabbing " . I am however, here to learn, to teach, to share, and to network. I really may have to leave though. I will ask that any and all personal comments be sent to MY email rather than this list. I will consider anything sent ... be it bad or good or indifferent... at anytime. email: changes Wishes of Hope, Health, Joy and Healing, Susan Renkel, RN / Changes Within ~ *^* ~ Exquisite Pure Essential oils, CO2's, & Blends ~ *^* ~ Wholesale or Retail. Guest guest
Hello, Just to remind everyone that we will be talking about Bergamot. You can add anything you want about this oil. I'm just putting down some basics. Bergamot Latin Name: Citrus Aurantium Extracted Peel of the fresh fruit. Description: May be yellow depending on the maturity of the fruit. Some tend to be pale yellow to olive green. The fragrance is characteristic, fresh, lemony-fruity with a slight balsamic note in the expressed oil. Some have a more fresher flowery top not. Safety: Citrus oil. Photosensitivity. Antiseptic, cooling, calming, relaxing, refreshing, purifying. The chemical composition of this oil may explain some of its reputed relaxing effects. The Linalol and Linalyl acetate (supposively!!) have been demonstrated as being partly responsible for the sedative properties of Lavender in which significant levels also occur. Use for: Mild depression Unwinding after a traumatic day Mental stimulant or relaxant (depending on emotional state) May help relieve itchy skin Anxiety Oily skin, acne Or just for its beautiful smell. Guest guest
Susan, Nothing wrong with being corrected. That's perfectly fine. That's what this list is for. To see different people's views on things. That is why I want people to add THEIR two cents worth. Guest guest
Susan, Firstly, my name is Carolyn and I have not posted a message on this list before. Briefly, I am from Tasmania, Australia. I have had an interest in Aromatherapy for quite a while and just recently I began an Aromatherapy certificate course by correspondence. I am also a full-time Mum of two adorable/time consuming toddlers as well as working doing relief teaching and casual residential support (for people with disabilities), as well as studying homeopathy by correspondence. I have a very supportive husband who is also studying (Law). I am curios about your statement re never using bergamot in any dilution on the skin. I am aware of the oil's photosensitivity nature, but thought that if used with caution that this would be alright. My son (3yo) has chronic (mild) eczema and I have made an ointment incorporating bergamot, lavender and geranium in very small (child safe) amounts. My reading, and experience with the ointment I make, is that bergamot is very effective with skin conditions. I have never come across the " cfc free " variety you mention (what does cfc stand for?). Could you please expand on your reasons (research, sources etc.) for making this recommendation. I am very willing to learn more and am finding this list very informative. Thanks Carolyn Changes Within [changes] Sunday, November 14, 1999 1:41 PM Re: [aromaexchange] Let's Talk about...Bergamot Changes Within <changes At 11:41 AM 11/14/99 -0500, you wrote: >Hello, > >Just to remind everyone that we will be talking about Bergamot.
