Hi Tracy,

A huge difference. Herbal extracts usually are just the herbs preserved in

alcohol, and essential oils are generally steam distilled from freshly

picked/cut plant material. So you can not use herbal extracts in the way you

use essential oils. Herbal extracts are for internal use. They are in no

way classified as aromatherapy, more herbal therapy.

Hi there Tracy & Kimberly,

I'm new to this list and I will introduce myself just a little. I

am an aromatherapist and have been practicing for over 15 years in the

Arlington, Texas.(I will introduce myself further later when I have a little

more time.) I specialize in making herbal infused oils of all types. I have

over a hundred different herbal infused oils in stock. Making herbal

infused oils is indeed a challenge. These oils add an entire new dimension

to aromatherapy as we know it. Herbal infused oils when made properly can

also eat and melt plastic just the same as essential oils. Herbal infused

oils are made from herbs that generally do not have enough essential oil in

them to be distilled. By using these herbal infused oils you can use oils

that you would not generally have available to you. HO's are easy to make

but they need to sit and mature before using.

Are there any of you out there who would like to participate in an

experiment in making Herbal Infused Oils? I am looking for people in

different parts of the US and Canada to make ho's and help do research so

that we can have the research available to show just how herbal oils can

help complement essential oils. Please email me privately if you are

interested. Thank you.
