Guest guest
<<,What is the difference between a herbal extract and an essential oil? >> Hi Tracy An essential oil is an extract from the plant and a herbal extract is also a specific extract eg. taking certain chemicals out of the plant to use for specific needs instead of using the herb as a whole. Traditional herbalism sees the whole plant as greater therapeutic value than just individual active ingredients. This is what happpens in modern medicine when chemicals are taken from plants and used in drugs and cause side effects.By using the whole plant/ plant combinations ,side effects can be greatly reduced. Different parts of plants contain different chemical properties even on the same plant, and so essential oils from flowers contain chemicals different say to those of seed chemicals. eg:- rose oil comes from the flowers and the hips can be used for tea. Hope this makes some kind of sense and some one please correct me if I'm not accurate here!!
