Each and everyone does (in fact) ... some know more about raising two daughters in Western Australia, or ... how to be a good friend .. or a good listener, and some know a bit more about certain topics than others. Some people will even disagree on what they know or think they know! All this is wonderful because ... you see, this is life!!! YOU are in it and have LOTS to contribute ... even if the *only* thing you ever did was ask questions!!!! That means you are *thinking* and *thinking* is good!!!!!! I'd being willing to bet that you, and many other quiet types out there, can contribute *much* to this list and the people whose lives it reaches into. >Anyway I have enjoyed reading and learning so far. >I have a query then if any one would care to reply. >Are there any oils that can help (preferably cure) phobias/anxiety. I have a very nasty phobia that makes my life absolute living hell and I would like to get rid of it. I burn some oils for anxiety but was wondering if any could cure phobias. I would drink a bottle of it if I had to. :-) Robin, I sincerely hope you don't really mean this. I also hope that you understand that it is going to take a weee bit more than a blend or essential oil, to conquer anxiety or even phobias or being anxious about phobias. And please dear lady, do not drink *any* essential oil!!!! There are really no " magic bullets " here. I truly hear a great deal of struggle and pain in your message and my heart reaches out to. I'm sincerely sorry you are so fearful of something that it has affected your life. I think it would be a tremendous diservice to you if anyone here on this list (not knowing a whole lot more about you, the person), tried to answer this question by simply giving you a few " AT Recipes " . It is going to take some small things/steps on your part to get adequate help you deserve! ... Hopefully you have someone familiar with YOU the person, who is willing to help you get adequate treatments. Phobias do NOT have to run your life. Know that there are many of us on this list who care about you and who will support you through any changes you decide to make. A good start would be learning more about the things you fear... and researching them. Another is a good and caring friend or counsellor or perhaps some of us here. Warmly Wishing you Joy, Hope, Health and Healing, Susan Renkel, RN/Changes Within Holistic Care Consultant who uses Aromatherapy as *part of a solution for some, rarely the *whole* solution for anyone! Hopefully you have someone familiar with YOU >the person, who is willing to help you get adequate treatments. Phobias do >NOT have to run your life. I am a total newbie around romatherapy. However, I do have something to offer Robin, and also T (Tracy). I am a counsellor who is currently serious student of NLP (Neurolinguistic Programming). If you want to eliminate a phobia, NLP has a lot to offer. It is a reputable, and sometimes controversial, therapy system. Phobia cure is probably its most potent benefit NLP offers. The only other ways you would be likely to deal effectively with phobias that I know of are hypnotherapy, or traditional psychoanalytic therapy (which takes literally years). It is important that you find a *competent* NLP practitioner, who should hold a certificate at least at master practitioner level, and have a few years of practice under her/his belt. Given a competent practitioner, it is unlikely that you will still experience the phobia in a debilitating way if at all after 1 to 3 sessions. Two characteristics of NLP are firstly that it works quickly (this is one of the reasons some more traditional therapists doubt it; another is that inexperienced and inadequately trained practitioners try it on people and lo and behold it doesn't work!) and secondly that the practitioner does not even need to know what the particular phobia is (that may sound amazing - we work with processes of the mind rather than specific content, so we call this work " content free " ). Btw, some NLP practitioners also practise hypnotherapy, and that is OK with me provided the person is also properly certificated and experienced. A lot of people have funny thoughts around hypnosis, but it's pretty safe in my view provided the therapist is competent. Both it and NLP work with the power of the unconscious mind (yours, that is!). >Know that there are many of us on this list who care about you and who will >support you through any changes you decide to make. Plese give me and the list some feedback and don't hesitate to voice any specific concerns you may have. Possibly of general interest: My NLP trainer (one of a very few " master " trainers in the world) believes that the next major breakthrough in the area of human behaviour will be in aromatherapy, and he talks in terms of a 30 year time span. (That's one of the reasons I'm on this list, btw.) NLP examines our " representational systems " with reference to our senses. Mostly the work has involved V (visual), A (auditory) and K (kinesthetic). K either includes or ignores (depending on contest) the two other senses which are named olfactory and gustatory, so the fuller picture is VAKOG. Olfactory is the only one which connects directly with the reptilian brain without being intercepted and processed by another of the body's systems, hence its potential, and efficacy already as aromatherapists know.
