Basic Start To Aromatherapy

Just a little something for those who want to get started with aromatherapy.

There are a few things you can use in your starter kit:

a vaporizer or oil burner

essential oils of your choice

a box and a cool, dry place for storing oils.

Always buy aromatherapy oils that are marked as being 100% pure. There are many

perfume oils around that are not essential oils and do not have the healing

properties of pure essential oils. For example, if the label on a bottle of

Geranium reads: Geranium aromatic or perfume oil, this is not an essential oil.

Some oils, however like Rose, Jasmine and Chamomile, ( my favorites of course)

are extremely expensive and are usually sold diluted at 5% in a carrier oil. As

long as it is clear that the essential oil is pure, its aromatherapeutic use

will be effective.

Essential oils are easily affected by light, so always but oils that have been

packaged in dark glass which most of them are. Do not under any circumstances

store essential oils in plastic; the oils will cause the plastic to deteriorate

and the oils themselves will lose their therapeutic effect. Also, keep your oils

away from heat and moisture (don't store them in the bathroom!!). The best place

to store your oils is in a wooden box in a cool, dry place. You can use a show

box if you don't have a wooden one.
