Guest guest
Hi there, I've enjoyed reading the posts on this list and finally, time permits me to actually write something back. Hopefully I can contribute more in the future, but for now I can comment on two recent questions. Borax can be found in the laundry section of the grocery store as 20 Mule Team Borax. It is a water softener. I use this in bath salts I make. You could substitute baking soda, but baking soda absorbs odors (its sitting in your fridge or freezer right now to do that I bet) so your EOs will not hold up as well. When I make bath salts, I mix up my salts unscented, then just before I use them I add the EO. I've found that if I do up a big scented batch, by the time I use it the scent is fading and I have to add more EO. I prefer to wait and save those precious and pricey oils. For a cold, I add 5 drops eucalyptus, 3 drops lavender and 2 drops peppermint to my bath. Since my tub is shallow and I cant get my upper body fully submerged, I soak a wash cloth in the water and lay it over my chest. Then site and breath and renew the washcloth when it cools. My most recent cold I was very stuffed up and had chest congestion but my cough was unproductive and my nose wasnt running, just stuffed, I couldnt blow. The morning after taking this bath my cough became productive and I could finally blow that stuff out of my nose. Repeated the bath and felt pretty good the next day. Also - as soon as I start to feel a cold coming, or I am exposed to someone with a cold, on I start drinking pots of green tea. Good quality green tea leaves can be used to brew up to 3 successive pots of tea. Each pot has a different flavor, due to the " cooking " of the leaves. My favorite is the 2nd pot. Remeber, tea is best made with water that is just reaching the boiling point, before it gets to a full boil. I know this is kind of off the AT topic, but I figure I'd mention it. Everyone have a great day! Jennifer
