Guest guest
Hi Somebody asked about hand/body lotion and this is what I've found. Hopefully it's anything you like! BB, Marjo ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Here is a nice body cream that is easy to make and feels wonderful. Decrease the stearic acid a bit and add a little more water to make it into a " lotion " . BTW, the original recipe came from Joy (Joylaud). I have tweeked it a little. ..3 oz wt Emulsifying wax ..5 oz wt Glycerin ..4 oz wt Stearic Acid 2.25 oz wt Coconut oil 7 oz wt Distilled Water Combine all ingredients in a deep pyrex mixing bowl. Heat in microwave just until all solids have melted. Beat with a stick blender( or a wire whisk) until white and milky. Continue to beat (or whisk) off and on until cool and thickened. Do not pour into your containers without whisking off and on because you may end up with the top portion (that cooled first) thick and the underneath like water! Blend in your fragrance or essential oil throughly before putting in your containers. Makes approximately 8 1/2 oz. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ JASMINE HAND & BODY LOTION 1/4 cup apricot kernel oil 1 tsp. beeswax 1 tsp. cocoa butter 1 tsp. coconut oil 1/4 cup distilled water 1 tsp. aloe vera gel 1/2 tsp. glycerin 5 drops jasmine fragrance oil Melt the butter blend in the oil over low heat then allow to cool. Measure the water, aloe vera gel and glycerin into a deep bowl. Slowly drizzle in a small amount of the oil mixture and beat vigorously with a wire whisk. Continue to drizzle and beat until all the oil is blended into the water. Stir in five drops of jasmine fragrance. Pour into a container, label and enjoy. Variations: Use a flower water in place of the distilled water. Use an herbal infusion, such as Calendula, in place of the distilled water. Experiment with essential oils for different fragrances and therapeutic effects. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Criscotm Hand Cream Crisco is just a blend of veggie oils and will make a nice hand cream if you can get past the idea of the shortening. Give this one a try. 4oz crisco 2oz beeswax 2oz glycerine 2 tablespoons liquid lecithin 4oz distilled water Melt all ingredients together just until liquid Mix with a whisk until it begins to thicken well. Pour into a jar and allow to cool. Use as needed. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Try this recipe: 1/3 cup olive or almond oil (infused 2 weeks with 1 tb. chamomile flowers and 1/2 vanilla bean, strain) 1 tb. beeswax 2 tb. lanolin Melt these together. Let cool. Mix in: 1 tb. aloe vera gel 2 tb. distilled water 1 drop chamomile e.o. 1 drop vanilla e.o. Beat until creamy and emulsified. CHAMOMILE AND CUCUMBER LOTION 2fl oz strong chamomile infusion 12oz cucumber 6 teaspoons glycerine chop the cucumber finely and sqeeze out the juice. Slightly warm the infusion and stir in the glycerine then, when thoroughtly amalgamated, stir in the cucumber juice. cool and bottle. refrigerate. This lotion will help smooth and soften skin Rose Petal Lotion A wonderful treatment for areas of parched chapped skin, and it smells terrific. 1/2 Ounce Anhydrous Lanolin 1/2 Ounce Cocoa Butter 4 Teaspoons Almond Oil 4 Teaspoons Glycerin (preferably vegetable) 6 Drops Rose Essential Oil (rosewood or rose geranium oils may be substituted) Put the lanolin and cocoa butter in a heat proof bowl and place in a saucepan half filled with water. Heat gently until melted and the mixture forms a smooth paste. Remove from the heat and stir in the almond oil and glycerin. Allow to cool before adding the rose oil, stirring well. Pour the mixture into a small jar. Apply liberally to dry skin after bathing. Summer Floral Cream 1/4 Cup Distilled Water 1/2 Teaspoon Borax 1/2 Cup Mineral Oil 3 Tablespoons Beeswax 1 Teaspoon Liquid Lanolin 5 Drops Each, Honeysuckle, Carnation and Mimosa Boil the water and add the borax powder, stirring until the borax is dissolved. Let this mixture simmer. In a separate heavy saucepan, add mineral oil, lanolin and beeswax and place over low heat. Stir until the beeswax has melted. Pour the oil mixture into a bowl and slowly drizzle the simmering water mixture while stirring with a wire whisk. Continue stirring until the mixture becomes a thick, white cream and has cooled to room temperature, approximately 15 minutes (don't give up too soon or your lotion will separate later). Stir in fragrance oils until well blended. Spoon into bottle or jar. Rosewater & Glycerin Lotion 2 tablespoons glycerine 2 tablespoons corn flower (cornstarch) 1/2 cup distilled water 2 tablespoons rosewater Mix together all ingredients in an ovenproof glass bowl or pitcher. Heat until just boiling and thick, 1 to 2 minutes in the microwave on High (stirring every 30 seconds), or on the stove top in a water bath. The lotion will be clear and jellylike; stir thoroughly and cool completely. When the lotion is cool, pour into a clean, airtight container. Note: If your lotion becomes too thick, you can thin it by adding water, one tablespoon at a time and stirring thoroughly. from Natural Beauty at Home by Janice Cox. Peppermint Refreshener Gel This lotion is good for oily skin and will give a tingly feeling after it is applied. 1/2 cup aloe gel (100%) 1 Tablespoon witch hazel 1-1/2 teaspoons cornstarch 3-4 drop peppermint essential oil Mix the aloe, witch hazel, and cornstarch in mircowave safe bowl (I used a 1 cup glass measuring cup). Mircowave on High, stirring every 20 seconds. When the mixture returns to a clear like gel instead of opaque, you are done. The cornstarch will turn a clear aloe gel to an almost white cream color. Stir until the gel has coo led a bit. Let mixture rest until quite cool. Add peppermint drops and stir well. Store in a glass jar with a well fitting lid. LEMON MERANGUE PIE LOTION This naturally fragrant lotion is perfect for the body and face. It's citrus elements will help to gently exfoliatedry skin while the rich, nourishing oils leave the skin feeling silky smooth. The concept of this cream dates back to the Victorian era where women commonly used blends of citrus fruits to lighten their skin. This particular lotion is comparable to the " fruition " creams on the market that help the skin shed away dead cells to reveal a new, fresher layer. 2 tablespoons grated beeswax 1/4 cup coconut oil 2 tablespoons apricot kernel oil 1/4 teaspoon lemon essential oil 2 tablespoons glycrein 1 teaspoon borax powder (20 mule team Borax laundry powder works fine) (makes 6 oz.) Melt beeswax and all oils in a heavy saucepan over low heat and stir until wax dissloves. Stir in glycerin. In a separate small pan, boil water and add borax powder, stirring until dissolved. SLOWLY pour the hot water/borax mixture into the oil/beeswax mixture stirring constantly with a wire wisk. Continue to stir until mixture forms a thick, pale yellow cream and has cooled to room temperature. Bottle. Melody's Light Moisturizer Lotion 1/4 c. Safflower oil (Jojoba, almond, etc. can be substituted) 1/4 c. Stearic Acid 1/2 tsp Baking Soda 1/4 c.. Glycerin 1 heaping tsp Lecithin 1/2 c. Distilled Water 1 Tbs. scent 1. Combine oil and stearic acid and heat just until stearic is melted. Do not overheat or the lotion will curdle. 2. Combine baking soda, glycerin, lecithin and water and heat but do not boil. 3. Slowly add water solution to the oil solution while stirring with a small wire whisk. This will foam up so make sure your container is large enough. 4. Use a handblender (or blender) and blend for several minutes. If the lotion separates and curdles, it is too hot. Stick the container in another container full of ice water and let it cool down. Beat again. 5. Add scent and bottle. Note: Oils and water solution should be hot, but you should still be able to stick your finger in it without getting burned. copyright 1997 Rainbow Meadow Soap Skin Healer Moisturizer Lotion 1 tsp. sodium alginate 1 cup water Make the base first by heating these together in a covered, non-metal pan until completely dissolved.
