Guest guest
Hi - I just got on the list yesterday and am interested in learning about aromatherapy. I am in the process of going back into the archives when I have a few minutes to read. I really don't know beans about aromatherapy and I feel there is so much to learn, it is so overwhelming. I bought some oils from my local herb shop - peppermint, grapefruit and lavendar. All I really know to do with them now is to sit and sniff them. I did rub some peppermint on my stomach a couple times for nausea and it worked. But - I am open to creative suggestions - like other applications on skin (do I need to mix them with almond oil or something?), spritzing (what is it - just a spray bottle you spray into the air? Is spritzing more effective than a diffuser/nebulizer? I have a " diffuser " which uses a tea candle and a glass dish for the oil. I used both lavender and grapefruit oils (at separate times) in it and wasn't impressed. Should I have mixed the oils with water? How does everyone get their oils, do you have a favorite website or mail order company? If anyone here sells oils and accessories feel free to contact me :-) I would like to ask everyone what is your favorite oil or blend for diffusing/nebulizing in the house for a general nice, warm, inviting atmosphere? There are so many oils and I don't want to play too much " trial and error " . Hope I haven't asked too much at one time. I welcome any and all basic information for a beginner. Guest guest
Hello Tammy May I be one of the first to say welcome to the list It is important that oils be diluted before applying them to the skin...If you check the archives there should be a message on dilution...use a 2-3% dilution in sweet almond oil or whatever carrier oil you prefer, but don't apply peppermint directly to your skin Spritizing is using Essential Oils in a bottle of water and using it as a body splash or a room freshener...I personally feel it is a nice pick me up but doesn't last as long as a diffuser or nebulizer would for sure...As far as your diffuser goes, I too have a candlelight diffuser with a little bowl on top...You place water in the bowl and add 4-6 drops of Essential oil to the water, the heat from the candle gently diffuses this into the air...mine is right on my desk so I get the full benefit of it I really like a blend of orange and cinnamon in my diffuser when there is a chill in the air ...it makes the house feel cozy Grapefruit is nice too as it is a very uplifting oil...You could also try mixing your peppermint with Lavender...btw...peppermint and lavender diluted in a carrier oil works quite well on headaches There is quite a bit of information on my webpage if you want some of the basics and contraindications etc...This is not an advertisement, I am talking about the info pages Just follow my link in my signature line In the links section of my webpage you will find links to other places that might interest you too Sharron Serene Aromatherapy
