I recently recieved this poem from another list and thought that you would all

enjoy it.

Friends Without Faces

We sit and we type and we stare at our screens.

We all have to wonder, what this possibly means.

We chat with each other, we share all our woes,

Small groups we do form and gang up on our foes.

We wait for somebody to type out our name,

We want recognition and offer the same.

We give kisses and hugs and sometimes we flirt,

In rooms we chat deeply and reveal why we hurt.

We form friendships but why is a thing we don't know,

Though most of them flounder some flourish and grow.

Why is it that on screen, we can all be so bold,

Telling our secrets that have never been told?

Why is it we share those deep thoughts in our mind

With those we can't see, as though we were blind?

The answer is simple, it's as clear as a bell.

We all have our problems and need someone to tell.

We can't tell " real " people, but tell someone we must

So we turn to the 'puter, and to those we can trust.

Even though it is crazy, the truth still remains,

They are friends without faces and with odd little names.

subject: A Poem

This poem was written by a terminally ill young girl in a New York

Hospital.

It was sent by a medical doctor - Make sure to read what is in the

closing

statement AFTER THE POEM.

SLOW DANCE

Have you ever watched kids

On a merry-go-round?

Or listened to the rain

Slapping on the ground?

Ever followed a butterfly's erratic flight?

Or gazed at the sun into the fading night?

You better slow down.

Don't dance so fast.

Time is short.

The music won't last.

Do you run through each day

On the fly?

When you ask How are you?

Do you hear the reply?

When the day is done

Do you lie in your bed

With the next hundred chores

Running through your head?

You'd better slow down

Don't dance so fast.

Time is short.

The music won't last.

Ever told your child,

We'll do it tomorrow?

And in your haste,

Not see his sorrow?

Ever lost touch,

Let a good friendship die

Cause you never had time

To call and say, " hi "

You'd better slow down.

Don't dance so fast.

Time is short.

The music won't last.

When you run so fast to get somewhere

You miss half the fun of getting there.

When you worry and hurry through your day,

It is like an unopened gift....

Thrown away.

Life is not a race.

Do take it slower

Hear the music

Before the song is over.

PLEASE FORWARD THIS TO HELP THIS LITTLE GIRL.

ALL FORWARDED E-MAILS ARE TRACKED TO OBTAIN THE TOTAL COUNT.

Dear All:

PLEASE pass this mail on to everybody you know.

It is the request of a special little girl who

will soon leave this world as she has cancer.

Please send this to everyone you know or don't know.

This little girl has 6 months left to live, a! nd as her dying wish,

She wanted to send a letter telling everyone to live

their life to the fullest, since she never will.

She'll never make it to prom, graduate from high

school, or get married and have a family of her own.

By you sending this to as many people as possible,

you can give her and her family a little hope,

because with every name that this is sent to,

The American Cancer Society

will donate 3 cents per name to her treatment and recovery plan.

One guy sent this to 500 people! So I know that we can

send it to at least 5 or 6.

Just think it could be you one day. It's not even

your money, just your time!

PLEASE PASS ON AS A LAST REQUEST

Not wishing to be a party-pooper but while this is a lovely poem and the

sentiments contained in it, it is also a hoax chain e-mail that has been

circulating now for at least a year. I was first sent it back in January

and again in June, at which point a friend of mine who is very " Net-wise "

told me:

" The American Cancer Society thing at the end is a hoax. Stories

about circulating emails and money getting donated have been

going around for several years. There used to be something about

it on the ACS website. Always seems to be a new take on chain

letters. "

I don't know if the anecdote is true or not. It isn't consistent - at one

point, it says that this young girl is dying, and hasn't long to live, but

at the end, where it suggests money will be donated to the ACS by keeping

the chain going, it suggests that she has a " recovery " plan? If she was as

ill as this leads us to believe, she would have been dead a long time ago -

by June, given the time I first received the story...

Please don't send chain e-mails like this to the group - they play on

people's emotions and serve no purpose, especially when they are hoaxes.
