Workshop-cum-Seminar on

CLINICAL

METHODOLOGY IN AYURVEDA

A brief picture

Introduction

This programme is an exploration on the practical methods of

ayurvedic clinical medicine based on BHESHAJAVACHARANIYA, the phenomenal work

by Acharya Vagbhata.

Description: background

Clinical medicine deals with the application of principles of

symptomatology, diagnosis and therapeutic intervention in real-life set ups

like hospital-wards and out-patient departments. This involves application of

precise

techniques-

1. to elicit, organize and interpret the signs and symptoms of a patient

2. to connect them rationally to facilitate pin-pointed diagnosis

3. to evaluate the situation in its totality

4. to prescribe with precision

5. to execute the best possible management and

6. to ensure the best outcome in the shortest time-frame possible.

Classical works of Ayurveda like those by the greater trio

have tried to exemplify this concept in their length and breadth. Though the

concepts remain same, the

techniques demand constant updating. The

phenomenal chapter BHESHAJAVACHARANIYA in the Sutrasthana of Ashtangasamgraha

by Vagbhata is an illustrative example for the efforts in this direction. This

work is now 1500 years old. It is a matter of great concern that there is

a progressive gap to bridge between the era of Vagbhata and the 21st century.

The concepts and techniques put

forward by the Acharyas are outstanding and amazingly precise. But they are

negated, neglected and outwitted

by the charm of the modern technology. We have to reclaim our original methods

and put our efforts to make them

contemporary.

Present work

The present work is a preliminary but landmark effort to

explore the practical and methods of ayurvedic clinical medicine. The session

will have one introductory

lecture followed by 8 presentations on different aspects of the subject, as

listed below-

1. Introductory address

2. Application of hetuvipareetha chikitsa

3. Importance of stanasamsraya in diagnosis and

treatment

4. Evaluation of vyadhibala

5. Rational use of medicines

6. Influence of seasons in a prescription

7. Total treatment protocol in chronic diseases

8. Rational use of therapies

9. Clinical medicine in ayurvedic perspective:

conclusion

The session will be chaired and

moderated by a panel of expert senior faculty. The entire proceedings will be

documented by audio-visual methods and

the materials presented by the experts will be added on. This will be edited

and bound to a volume by

experts which will be published later.

Dear Vaidya Prasad,

This seems a good and topical selection of subject of discussion in proposed seminar.

Ayurveda certainly requires a lot of work to be done on similar lines to bring it out from the period of reminiscence to a real curative and dependable medicine.

This would be great if we can get a feed back of proposed discussions at IASTAM.

sincerely
