Guest guest
Susan, Nice to meet you. I am so happy that people are finally starting to post. And it seems that people are being so honest. That is what I made this list for. I have been on other lists and only have seen such cruelty from everyone. I have just started taking Swedish Massage and love it. I want to combine it with my Aromatherapy. These two go hand in hand. I know how hard it is to take care of a mother. My mom had cancer and died 3 years ago this Sunday. We end up being the mother and the mother our child. Just have patients. I wish you the best and am looking forward to " speaking " with you more. Guest guest
Hi Helen and fellow aromaphiles! I guess I should introduce myself briefly before I ask my question. I'm Sandy Horner and I am a Registered Massage Therapist in Menomonie, Wisconsin. As part of my courses at massage school, I took a 48 hour class in basic aromatherapy and I've been hooked ever since. I have a pretty healthy collection of oils that seems to grow on a monthly basis, and I have been reading extensively and belong to several aromatherapy mailing lists, where I am constantly learning new things. I eventually plan to take a correspondence course in aromatherapy (probably with Sylla Shepard-Hanger, as I've heard glowing reports of her course as well as her book). But that's for next year. My question is to Helen in CapeTown who mentioned that she teaches classes for beginners (or anyone else who would care to offer suggestions). I am just now starting to carry a line of essential oils in my practice, and am thinking that I should offer a beginner's class to familiarize folks with this wonderful practice. However, I want to find out what sort of things would be good to teach folks in a 1 or 2 evening class, just to get them started. Any and all suggestions on cirriculum would be greatly appreciated. Namaste, Sandy

Kimberly, I'm collecting data on as many schools/courses in Aromatherapy that I can. Would you mind sharing the name, address, phone, web site, etc. info on the place that you received your certification? I'd really appreciate your assistance here. Wishing you well in all ways, Lynn AromaticLife Wednesday, November 10, 1999 9:40 PM Introduction AromaticLife Hi, I just joined. Familiar with aromatherapy for the past 5, going on 6 years. I also try sometimes to be an educator on safe use of essential oils. I have so many oils I love it's impossible to pick a favorite. I have developed quite a collection, but in time hope to add a few others to it. I'm currently a stay at home mom, though a licensed massage therapist, manicurist and certified aromatherapist. Unfortunately >I don't have the knowledge or the courage to use some of them as I don't >know what to combine them with or how to use them. > Hi Paula, from another newbie. I love using Patchouli and Orange in my burner, about 4 drops of each. A slight Patchouli aroma lingers for a couple days. The Orange seems to burn off quickly. Sometimes I use a blend of Clary Sage and Chamomile (not on your list) in Grapeseed oil on my feet in the evenings right before getting in bed. I am interested in the notion that Clary sage can give nightmares. has anyone else had this experience? I seem to have more vivid dreams, that I can remember, after using this, but so far no nightmares. (The reason I use it is because it smells good and is calming.) Peppermint is one of my favorites and I have used it for headaches and for alertness. Guest guest
Hello Betsy! Here's a couple of my favorite authors, Robert Tisserand, Valerie Ann Worwood, Kurt Schnaubelt, Connie & Alan Higley. All available through http://www.amazon.com And, so much more. Here's some oils that I've used with my clients (Hypnotherapy) that I've really enjoyed: Tangerine (to lift spirits!), Sandalwood, Ylang Ylang, any woodsy smells (especially for men), any citrus including bergamot & neroli, Jasmine (not often as it's to sweet for some folks). I find if I stick with earthy and or citrus-y stuff I get better reactions. Depending on what I'm working with as whether I get to use dear ole' Lavender. One thing for sure, people really do love coming into an office where the mood is set for them with stuff this simple. Plus, with these kinds of aromas, we're got almost instant access to memories as well as instant rapport. Wishing you well in all ways, Lynn " Elizabeth L. Carswell " <carswell I have particular interest in those EOs that are helpful for depression anxiety, mania, etc. I have 2 questions to start things off: 1. Are there any books list members have found particularly useful? I am interested in books that would provide a lot of info on different oils, their qualities, therapeutic benefits, and different administration methods. 2. I understand that heating oils (as in votive candle diffusers) diminishes the therapeutic benefits of EOs. What are some good " cold " diffusers and where would I get one? Thank you for your time, Betsy Germantown, Maryland

Happy Holidays to you and yours, Lynn (Los Angeles) Anna Monday, December 20, 1999 8:00 PM Introduction Hi everyone My name is Anna and I live in Cape Town, South Africa. I've only recently become interested in aromatherapy after being introduced to it by a friend. I am looking forward to learning more about it and am reading as much as possible on the subject. There is one thing that bothers me. So far in everything that I have read, there are warnings about adulterated oils. As a beginner in all of this, how do I know if an oil that I have bought is pure? It is, indeed, a country of great beauty and variety. I would love to help you put a holiday together in this part of the world. On US$ it is very cheap, particularly if you can find someone who will put it together for you with you staying at local resort accommodation rather than international hotels. You will get approximately R6-00 to your US$1-00, which will mean that you will spend about US$10-15 for a three course meal at a good restaurant, and US$30-40 for a good hotel per night. Things can be done a lot cheaper than that as well. Blessings for the forthcoming Christian holidays, Winter Solstice, and New Year. Moira de Swardt Using all God's resources. Guest guest
Hello to all. I have been on this list lurking for a month. I noticed in the introductions that have come about that I seem to have much in common with many of you. I saw Selkey's intro and Selkey, you have interests in some of the same things I do. I have been studying aromatherapy on my own for about 3 years and through formal courses for 4 months. I too am studying Reiki. I am second level and have commitments to go farther. I make soap have dreams of marketing it. I am married to a wondrous man and I have one grown son by a former marriage. His work takes him all over. Right now he lives in NJ. I live in Ohio with my DH and two loving canines. I have extended family in Florida and would love to live down there with them. My practice, however, keeps me in Ohio. I've learned much from this list already, just in the last month. Thank you. Sandy White

Guest guest
Dear participants, my name is Ulrike Cokl, I am a social- and cultural anthropologist, currently composing my PhD proposal. My paper at the conference will be on technology and social impact by giving an empirical overview on different healing strategies in a Bhutanese village and how these strategies are re-combined, abandoned or kept up with after the village got accessed by a road. When it comes to perceptions of health, disease and prevention there exist a lot of different strategies in Bhutan which are not part of the officially recognised traditional Bhutanese medicine and there has been done limited research on them.I have conducted participant observation field research for about 6 months in a village in Bumthang and within the last 10 years I visited Bhutan 5 times over extended periods of time. The presentation at the conference will be held together with Drungtsho Dorji Udon from the indigenous hospital in Thimphu. I am actually interested in critical and applied anthropological research combined with participant observation field method (among others).I am looking forward to meet you at the conference in Thimphu!Regards Ulrike
