Guest guest
Hi all! I just joined and was asked to introduce myself. My name is Sonya Pritzker and I am a practitioner of Chinese medicine (acupuncture, herbs) working in Santa Monica. I am a graduate of Meiji College of Oriental Medicine in Berkeley, CA, and have also studied in Beijing for 2 years (with various doctors). Currently, I am also working on my PhD in medical and linguistic anthropology at UCLA. My research consists of looking at ideologies of translation and language socialization in U.S. Chinese medical education. I am therefore filming classes at a school of CM in Los Angeles, and conducting ongoing interviews with a cohort of first year students as they go through the program. I am also looking at the broader translation and terminology debates in the field (visiting publishers, interviewing translators, etc.), and relating that back to the students' experience in school. So I love talking about language in Chinese (and other forms of Asian) medicine, the politics of globalization, the socialization of healing beliefs and practices, the history of Chinese medicine, etc. etc. I know many members share these interests, and I look forward to being in touch! Thanks!! Sonya
