The development of Siddha System Of Medicine had been curbed by the linguistic boundaries for ages. By the year 2002 - 2003 the world witnessed a drastic change which would leave its mark in history. In the year, the Santhigiri Siddha Medical College was started by imbibing the vision of our Guru, Navajyothy Sree Karunakara Guru. At last the battle for opening a Siddha College by the Santhigiri Family for more than 10 years had come to an end with a sweet ending.Now the college stands in the serene atmosphere at Santhigiri, Pothencode in the outskirts of Trivandrum. Being the first English Medium College of Siddha, it is the first of its kind all over the world, providing not just a B.S.M.S degree, but also inculcating in the students the basics of love, spirituality & humanity on which this system has flourished. The college campus itself takes us back to the Gurukul System being

surrounded by medicinal plants and the aroma of medicine filling the atmosphere. Within the campus, the college coexists with institutions like:

 

 

 

1. Santhigiri Siddha & Ayurveda Hospital

2. The production unit of Santhigiri Pharmacy

3. The Santhigiri Botanical Garden

4. The Honey Collection Unit &

5. Even a branch of Central Council for research in Ayurveda & Siddha & many more.

The college has got almost all the facilities needed for a Siddha College with separate hostels for men & women. The curriculum includes not only Siddha but also the modern basics of anatomy & physiology, thus equipping its students to win the battle between the modern medicine & the so called 'alternative' therapy headed by the Principal, Dr.V.Arunachalam, one of the most eminent personalities in the field of Siddha.

The coaching is given by staffs who are highly reputed in the field. In no other college will you find a botanical garden in the same campus as the college. As far as the clinical practice is concerned, the hospital has both inpatient & outpatient facilities and has served even the former president Dr.K.R.Narayanan. He was so moved by his experience in the hospital and ashram that he donated his home land at Uzhavoor to start the Research Institute for Ayurveda and Siddha.

The hospital is known for its service in the field of medicine for its contributions made in curing the so-called incurable diseases like cervical spondylosis, hemi-plegia, jaundice, hepatitis etc. The students also get better exposure in this field by the 'Karunyam' camps being held as a part of the charity work of Santhigiri Ashram. As far as job opportunities are concerned, the Santhigiri family itself has centers both inside and outside the state & even abroad. Besides one Siddha dispensary each is expected to be opened in each Panchayat within a couple of years. Thus one can, without any hesitation, be sure that the products of Santhigiri Siddha Medical College will score high in the sky of medicine, spreading the wings of Siddha all over the world & at the same time carve their own niche not only in the field of Siddha but in the medical field as such. For as everyone knows, Siddha is not just a system

of medicine, It is a way of life which -
