The scheme is aimed to facilitate, propagate and popularise the indigenous health care systems in order to create awareness for ensuring a healthy society.For the systematic implementation of the scheme at the national level the country will be divided into five zones - North, East, West, Central and South.Since the majority of the country’s population live in rural areas, where the access to health care is remote, the aim of the scheme KARUNYAM is to spread awareness and to make available the medicines and treatment among rural population in order to lead India towards an ailment-free nation.The scheme was announced on Thursday by Swami Jyothirmaya Jnana Thapaswi and Swami Gururethnam Jnana Thapaswi of Santhigiri Ashramam. Also present was Dr Kiran, regional manager of the scheme. The duration of the project is estimated at 15 years and approximately. Rs 7.5 cr ailing Indians will benefit. The first phase of the scheme is a month-long medical camp and free distribution of medicines throughout Kerala organised in association with Police Dept of Kerala, Rotary clubs, Lions clubs, and Excise Department, Press clubs and various NGOs,” Dr Kiran said. The estimated cost of project, which includes mobile clinics, block-level dispensaries and district-level hospitals, would be Rs 35,000 crore, Ashramam authorities said. Hospitals, research centres and laboratories will be established for the successful implementation of the scheme. The cultural wings of the Ashramam will organise exhibitions, talks and street plays and door-to-door campaign for spreading awareness of the scheme.
