KARUNYAM - FREE HEALTH SCHEME OF SANTHIGIRI TAKES OFF The Malayala Manorama, Malayalam daily reports:(free translation)Calicut: Karunyam, the free health scheme of Santhigiri Ashram takes off. Shri Mohammed Azharuddin, former captain of Indian cricket Team inaugurated the scheme by distributing free medicines to the poor and needy peoples at Calicut on 02-04-06 at 6 pm. The aim of scheme is to provide free ayurvedic & sidha treatment to 2 lakhs, economically backward classes of Kerala.In his inaugural speech, Shri Mohammed Azharuddin appraised the activities of the Ashram, based on the sacrificial life of Navajyothi Sree Karunakara Guru. By serving others we can overcome selfishness and that brings us the ultimate joy - he further added.The scheme is introduced as a part of 7th Nava Oli Jyothir Dinam. The ashram plans to conduct more than 300 medical camps throughout Kerala. The duration of the scheme is 5 years. More than 7 lakhs people may get the benefit of the scheme.Mayor M. Bhaskaran chairs the inaugural meeting. Rev. Father Joseph Maliakel, Press club secretary R. Madhu sanker, C.P. Kunju Mohammed, Dr. N.P. Venugopal, Dr. Rajkumar, Ambika Ramesh, Varghese K.
