Guest guest
Wayne, Can't base everything on just acidity/alkalinity. I'm sure citrus is more than that. But I have read that if your urine is too alkaline you are vulnerable to bladder and urinary tract infections. And if it agravates a stomach condition..... We have always been led to believe that oranges, lemons, and grapefruit was good for us. Of course I know..... about 80% of what we have been told over the years is dead wrong. The book I had that was written in 1927 gave one small scale study the doctor made. He found a group of people who liked oranges. He had them increase the number they ate per day until they were eating 40 oranges per day. He stated that the urine never became the least bit acid. I don't recall the number of people involved, if it was even stated. I do remember that the main theme of the book was acidosis and related effects. It was not a very technical book. The year I read it was 1960 or 1961. Can you or anyone point to any information that suggest these citrus items will mess up our body acidity? I realize that in your case, and others, there could be many ill effects other than the acidity / alkalinity issue. Gee, I just ordered oranges via the grocery shopper a few minutes ago. Now you got me worried that I am doing everything wrong. I will eat far less than 40 per day. Wayne
Guest guest
Evening Ron, >>Can't base everything on just acidity/alkalinity. I'm sure citrus is >more than that. But I have read that if your urine is too alkaline you are >vulnerable to >bladder and urinary tract infections. And if it agravates a stomach >condition..... OK, I understand. My urine and saliva has been reading about 6.5 . I though it needed to be closer to 7.0 Blood target ph is 7.3 is it not? I went to the blood lab a week ago today. They could not do a blood ph test. Some lab...? I am getting into this coconut oil addiction, especially with peanut butter and honey. And.... hack, right after eating about 3 tbsp, I read something that said...... " never eat honey " . There must be someone .... somewhere that condemns every single food on the face of the earth. What must we do.... Fast and DIE ! Also.... I have some Borage Oil ordered. I am anxious to get my first quarter program fully under way. The first quarter may be half over before I get everything all firmed up. Guest guest
--- Oh Wayne, I think that we need to consider the fact that because of our DNA and other factors everybody is different. We shouldn't worry, but just try and be aware that although moderate amounts of citrus might be good for some, they are not for everyone. I'm certainly not trying to impose my diet, lifestyle on anyone, yourself included. :-) I have been acutely aware of the way the body's PH balance affects health and illness. I think it is vitally important to have a balance of acid and alkaline foods in one's diet to be optimally healthy and acidity is in many ways linked to many illnesses, including some forms of arthritis and autoimmune disease, and osteoporosis as it's the phosphoric acid in meats and dairy that contributes to osteoporosis. That's why as a rule I try to eat very little meat as it is highly acidic. They say just meat the size of your fist two or three times weekly will suffice, so try to follow those guidelines. Just eating a wide variety and including pears and celery and some other alkaline foods and drinking the right amount of water helps our body maintain the proper balance! I'm happy that Greg provided us with the chart (for alkaline, acidic foods). I'm sure I'll make good use of it in the future.:-) Taking vitamin D and keeping up with our essential fatty acids helps to maintain the balance, also. Have you ever taken the PH test? Guest guest
Hi Wayne Well, we cannot eat much citrus as a family.... it seems to cause burning in the nether regions in myself and my doughtier, aged 5 yr.. My son gets cold sores, especially from oranges, and my husband cannot eat oranges as they create too much mucus in his lungs and throat. So..... we eat certain fruits in moderation. Pears seem fine, and apples are o.k. in moderation. Any acidy ones are out for us.
