Guest guest
There are a lot of things I'm reading lately that I need some help understanding. I know we all disagree as to whether or not soy is good. I know we all disagree about the amount of meat one should eat. But I am very confused about all of the dairy being touted. Can someone please explain to me why they think dairy is healthy? And how about keffir? I didn't know what it was, and I stumbled upon it next to the tofu in my whole foods market (I do believe in soy in moderation), and I was so surprised to see that not only was it a dairy product, but that it was made from non-organic milk and also listed high fructose corn syrup as one of the main ingredients? So now dairy and refined sweeteners are a good thing? I am very confused -- enlightenment, anyone? Guest guest
--- Deb, One post stated that the " overconsumption " of soy is unhealthy. We both know that there are quite a few benefits that can be derived from soy if used in moderation. Sometimes this can be confusing as many of the articles don't stipulate if these same derogatory effects occur using non-gmo products. It can be misleading. Guest guest
I know very little about real kefir grains. there is kefir in Whole Foods made by Nancy's of Eugene,OR and it is made with organic dairy and only sweetened by the fruit included and honey. There are many brands they carry that have tons of garbage in them though (I go to the one in Seattle). As for dairy being bad- I am not an expert. I know it is a major allergen; also, most milk products are from cows that are pumped full of drugs, steroids, antibiotics, etc. I do not personally believe all dairy is bad nor do I believe it is bad for all people. I for one do not tolerate most dairy well, except when I am pg. I do wonderful on organic plain yogurt... Guest guest
Sindea, These are the understanding I have about dairy as well, among many others that have lead me to come to the conclusion that dairy is not meant to be consumed except by young calves. I am also very lactose intolerant, so I do not eat dairy anyway, but in researching my intolerance, I learned these things that make sense as to why I cannot tolerate it. I am not an expert, either, only trying to learn more. Does anyone have a thought about who dairy would be good for? As I see it, you can't get anything (except sick, lol, says the lactose intolerant!) from dairy that you cannot get more effectively somewhere else, like calcium for instance. Hi Debbie, Don't you think it is strange, that humans, with the highest level of DNA, somehow still must eat dairy products to achieve Optimal Health? There is no requirement for dairy in your diet. You can get ample calcium and carbs from your veggies. Fish / lean meat will provide you with all the protein / amino acids you need. Avoid veggie oils and the foods processed in them, except extra virgin olive oil like the plague they are. Eat more natural foods, reduce white flour food in favour of whole grains & stone ground flour and eat more coconut based products. Add in a bit ( 1- 2 tablespoons a day) of ground organic flax seed for Omega 3 balancing. That said, I do enjoy a bit of good Aussie Cheddar with a glass of good Aussie red wine. ======================== Good Health & Long Life, Greg Watson, http://optimalhealth.cia.com.au gowatson USDA database (food breakdown) http://www.nal.usda.gov/fnic/foodcomp/ PubMed (research papers) http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi DWIDP (nutrient analysis) http://www.walford.com/dwdemo/dw2b63demo.exe Patch file for above http://www.walford.com/download/dwidp67u.exe KIM (omega analysis) http://ods.od.nih.gov/eicosanoids/KIM_Install.exe
