My wife & I located a Homeopath vet who sold frozen meat patties made from ground up whole chickens with entrails included along with other kinds of meat. We tried it & both our cats loved it. Bob's (the cat) over-sensitivity to fleas went away as did all problems with kidney stones. Both our cats' coats improved a lot, both the heavy coated Manx & the sleek coated Siamese. From what I have read, the BARF diet adds vegetable matter to the meat to try & simulate whole animals. The prepared patties were easy, but may not be available where you are. If interested, I will root around to see if I have an old box with the meat info on it that I am using for storage. Alobar >>
Guest guest
Hi Mindy, We are in the process of integrating some of the BARF stuff into our German Shepherd's diet. We all love it! He has always been a finicky eater and has a very sensitive tummy. Lots of allergies, too -- licking, scratching, panis (GSD eye condition caused by allergies). We have been giving him 1/2 high quality kibble and 1/2 raw meat (usually chicken backs and necks, but sometimes ground beef), grated carrots and broccoli. For treats, we mostly give him carrots and almonds, but sometimes Iams biscuits, which he loves and doesn't seem to affect him poor tummy too badly. A few times a week, he gets a raw meaty marrow bone to chomp on in the yard. I know how highly chicken carcasses are recommended on the BARF diet, but we haven't been able to bring ourselves to that quite yet! We are waiting to see if the allergies get better, but he has a lick granuloma that has gotten better and his stool have never looked so good. Sorry to be graphic, but this is an amazing feat for the diarrhea-plagued dog we are used to! They say that at first you will experience a lot of shedding, but after that it will be better than originally b/c the fur stays in longer b/c it is healthier. The grains in the kibble cause them to grow a much thicker coat than they need, which is why all the shedding at first. Let me know if you try it -- I'd love to compare notes!
