Guest guest
What would you say if your favorite nutrition guru got cancer? (Kinda like Suzanne Somers.) The reason I ask is because I found out from quackwatch that Adelle Davis died of cancer, and here I was enjoying her book so much. It said other things, too, like how hardly any of her footnotes checked out to be true, and how some of her treatments killed people. So now I don't know what to think. How does anyone ever know what is true when you have 2 people on either side of the fence clamoring loudly. Take protein, for example. You have protein fanatics on one side saying that one should eat at least 50 grams of protein a day, and you have folks on the vegan side saying that you only need maybe 5 grams a day. How do you know which side is right? Mindy, a little distressed
Guest guest
Mindy Try not to get to hung up about the whole health issue in general. We can spend so much money and waste so much time and money on it, while someone else is profiting big time. Everything in moderation. I think what you have just quoted is a really good example that even the experts are not experts. Sometimes, like myself, we know what is good for us, and still eat rubbish....<sigh> Just eat the type of foods that God created for us - cut out the junk, exercise and sleep well, limit stress, and forgive others. This is a good recipe for health. Oh, and eat your flax seed and coconut oil Tracy - " Mindy Behymer " <mindy " getting well " Saturday, 5 January 2002 14:03 nutrition gurus & cancer > What would you say if your favorite nutrition guru got cancer? Guest guest
At the very least, it's reasonable to assume, that if you were seriously deficient in a major component of the human diet, such as protein, you'd exhibit some health problems in due time. Your sense of well-being, vitality, endurance, clarity of thought, clarity of skin, quality of vision, hearing, smell, taste, digestion, quality of sleep, resistance to infection, mood, etc., are all immediately available to your awareness. - " Mindy Behymer " <mindy " getting well " Friday, January 04, 2002 5:03 PM nutrition gurus & cancer > What would you say if your favorite nutrition guru got cancer? Guest guest
--- Mindy, Greetings! My opinion is that Adelle had the same risks as you or I have and that she did her best with the knowledge she had at the moment. The experts are the first to admit that even with all the knowledge they have gained,... it's just the tip of the iceberg. With the advance of technology (x-rays,chemo, radiation, etc) our risks are even greater. If she followed traditional cancer therapy to undergo the slash and burn techniques recommended by most MD's, her body didn't have a chance of survival for chemo and radiation destroy the immune system. She evidently lived a long healthy life before she died and that is what is important in my mind. Everyone has cancer cells in their body just waiting for their immune system to break down. As long as your immune system is functioning cancer is not able to take over the body. The important thing is to build up our immune systems. Diet is just one of the many ways we can do to accomplish this. The risks of high protein diet (animal protein is the worst!) is well documented. vegetarians and vegans have a much lower incidence of disease(esp.cancer and auto-immune disease). I have some information that I try to follow in regards to diet. I'd like to share it with you if I may. A good diet consists of: 50% grains 30% veggies 13% fruits 2% dairy (organic) 4% meat I have had good results with these guidelines for a number of years now. Hope this helps you somewhat... Guest guest
Just thought to share something that I have been reading lately. And it flies in the face of the " don't eat meat theory " . You probably have all read it, and that's the " eat right for your type " book. While initially I had misgivings about the book, and still don't agree with some of what he says, he seems to be able to cite case studies of people (or blood groups) that fare better on a high protein diet). Most of what he said that my blood group doesn't do well on, I don't eat for that very reason. All my family of five are type O, and he even mentioned that type O's are more susceptible to bleeding in childbirth and post op. I did with all my kids, big time with the second, to the point I almost died. So some of what he says rings true with me and my family. He doesn't recommend coconut oil, so he doesn't know everything! Obviously no-one gets it right 100 per cent of the time, but I really do feel better on a high protein diet, with loads of veggies. No dairy, and no wheat, which is what he says too. I have heard others say this as well. Not every one is suited to being a vegetarian. I am sure cancer is more prevalent, not because of meat, but because of all the crap the animal eats and is injected with! Anyway, I took from the book what I wanted, and discarded the rest. I do that with every book I read, otherwise you would go mad! Tracy - " mrsjoguest " <joguest Saturday, 5 January 2002 17:31 Re: nutrition gurus & cancer > --- Mindy, > Greetings! Was shown this book a few months ago. I was a very sick bunny indeed and had no trouble following the 'diet.' Made a huge impact on my health. > blood group doesn't do well on, I don't eat for > that very reason. Same goes for me now. > says rings true with me and my family. My wife who has Fibromyalgia for the last five years has been on this diet for the same time and a lot of her pain has started to ease and she certainly appears to be back on the road to recovery. She is 'B' type and the nasties for her are chicken and tomatoe. Two of her favourite foods???? It also means that the long list supplements can be got rid of. Good health on the blood type diet. Guest guest
> What would you say if your favorite nutrition guru got cancer? (Kinda I would wonder first of all if " quackwatch " was truthful? Then, if I wanted to know more, I would seek some answers. The thing is that if one person dies of cancer who has chosen the " alternative " route of natural remedies to overcome it, it is HUGE news. Where is the news that says that NO ONE I know who has has chemo and radiation has lived more than 6 years, and most die very quickly after chemo destroys the immune system and radiation destroys bodily functions such as lungs, heart, arteries, stomach, brain, etc. Building and maintaining an optimally working immune system is the ONLY way to avoid cancer and every other disease. Chosing the way to support the immune system to perform at ts highest potential of correct funtion is what we all seem to be trying to accomplish here. Because each of our bodies may be deficient in or suseptible to many varying substantces, or have known or unknown genetic challenges or strenghts, each person on this planet may very well react to a different methods of perfecting our immune systems. Right now, I am believing that free radical cascade damage is the basis for ALL disease and is what negatively impacts our immune systems. So I am searching for the keys to stop free radical damage. The super anti aoxident of oglerameric proanthocyanidins (sp) or OPC is the most current weapon I've added to my arsenal. OPC is a co-factor to Vit C, causes vit a, e, c actuib to be synergistically bumped up many times higher than when used alone or independently. I have seen the amazing healing our bodies can accomplish with the right support. And no " quackwatch " is going to sway me one way or another. I look for my own results. We are all on a mission here it seems. This is a very important forum. Blessings Francie
