Most low cost coconut oil is based on that made from dried copra and highly processed. It's called RBD CO which means Refined, Beached and Deodorized. While it still has a high Lauric fatty acid content, it has lost a lot of the other goodies the low tech produced VCNO has. Desiccated coconut is one alternative. A good US source is: http://www.coconut-info.com/tropicaltraditions/purchase.htm The 1 gallon size is the best buy as the price per pint is Us$6.25. VCNO has about a 3 - 5 year shelf life and does not require refrigeration as there are only small amount of mono and poly fatty acids which will slowly go rancid. The Vit E in the VCNO helps to protest these double bond fatty acids from peroxidation / attack by free radicals. ======================== Good Health & Long Life, Greg Watson, http://optimalhealth.cia.com.au gowatson USDA database (food breakdown) http://www.nal.usda.gov/fnic/foodcomp/ PubMed (research papers) http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi DWIDP (nutrient analysis) http://www.walford.com/dwdemo/dw2b63demo.exe Patch file for above http://www.walford.com/download/dwidp67u.exe KIM (omega analysis) http://ods.od.nih.gov/eicosanoids/KIM_Install.exe
