Guest guest
Hi Alobar, Just curious...what about fluids? Are you taking in enough fluids to prevent dehydration/electrolyte imbalances while working? Kandi
Guest guest
First some background info on me. I am a 6' tall, 185 pound male who was diagsed with diabetes about 6 months ago. For a while I was bringing my blood sugar under control with glyburide, a scrip med. The side effects of the glyburide were not to my liking so I stopped taking it (under my doctor's protests) & have been controlling my blood glucose levels with diet plus an Aryuvedic pill, gourdin ( http://www.gourdin.com/ ). For a while, my control with diet plus gourdin has been ok (fasting blood glucose levels of 110-130), but lately my morning blood glucose levels have been higher than I would like (about 150). At first I assumed that this was due to my dietary indescretions of the holidays. But a little experiment last night has me puzzling over what is really going on. Last night I worked long hours & got to bed 3 hours later than usual. The room felt hot even though the temp was 72 (where I usually keep it). I thought maybe my bood sugar was high so I measured it. It was 110. This was measured 4 hours after my last meal & 2 hours after a late night snack of a single medium orange. I woke up after 6 hours of sleep (my usual get-up time) & felt chilled. The room temp was still at 72. I tested blood glucose levels & they were up to 151. This is 8 hours after eating an orange & 10 hours after my last night meal. I am perplexed. I expected my blood glucose levels to be 110 or even lower. I have been answering e-mail for the past 4 hours with no food. I just checked again. 150. I am trying to figure out what is elevating my fasting blood glucose levels. Anyone have any ideas? Is it just the fact I have been nibbling on too many carbohydrates (bread stuffing) over the past week? If so, I shall be changing that soon as Yule feasting is done. Or is my high blood sugars somehow related to long work hours out in the cold & getting only 6 hours of sleep? Is my body turning up the internal furnace beacuase I sit outside for 8 hours in 40°F temperatures? If so, I expect my blood glucose will remain high all winter. Could it be related to getting chilled at night when I toss my blankets off? Or are there other viariables I am not seeing? Alobar

When I was an un-controlled & un-diagnosed diabetic I drank nearly 2 gallons of water a day. Water use has dropped considerably since bringing my blood sugars under control, but I still average about 2-1/2 to 3 quarts of water a day. My body does not seem to want more except in hot weather. No alcohol or coffee or caffeinated beverages. Normally I try to keep my salt intake real low, but I did eat more salt yesterday than usual -- but not a huge amount more.
