Guest guest
BlankI am desparate to try and change my diet to much more raw food, more vegetables and fruit, but can find no inspiration for making these foods more appetizing without spoiling their life force (cooking, light frying. It seems to me that if you are eating a healthy diet, ones choices of food comes down to veges, and fruits. We are told all the reasons for not eating dairy, ( I agree, unless one can get raw milk not at all easy where we live England) also we are not priviledged to have a wide array of fruits and veges, that grow in warmer countries. There are at least 50 different fruits that we cannot get. I feel so cheated! Does anyone know of any inspiring food preparation books that perhaps cater for us in this hemisphere, (north or south) geographys not my hot point. What do you do for comfort food when you are meant to be eating healthily. I want to do some liver/gall cleanses as soon as possible due to gallbladder pain. So its important to take care of my diet. Are there any raw fooderrs on this list? if so like to hear how you cope, and how do you not get bored? Bye for now Anne
Guest guest
Hi Anne, My daughter was in Australia this summer and picked up a book " The Liver Cleansing Diet " by Dr. Sandra cabot. I have never seen such a clever book! I have a library of books here and what makes this one so special is she has a " safe " eight week outline of how to eat....and you don't get cheated in your choice of foods....and to top it off there are all the recipes right there in the book. I am thinking about your gallbladder cleanse you mentioned here. I haven't started to do this yet, and really it's not so much a diet as a choice to eat a healthy delicious way! teehehehe.... Anyhow I lost the book under my mess here (we were renovating) and I just found it last week. The first two weeks are easier, the second a bit stricter and the third even stricter...the main thing I see is that in later parts of the weeks you cut out eggs and a few other items...so it is not hard on your system. I know some people really dive in head first and end up sicker than before they started their journey to health. I highly recommend not to do this, I was green behind the ears at about 24 yrs old and did this....ouch! I learned the hard way. And with that you put your body into such a shock that it can take months and months before you even feel well enough to start again. I have not seen such a good outline for a cleanse...there are some really dangerous cleanses out there and trust me, in my stupidity I tried a few...very dangerous! I am really impressed with this book. I don't know if you have access to the book or not and I don't think it can be found in the states here that I know of either. You may want to check with some Australian book sites. Okay so here are some samples of her menu (and she has outlined daily for breakfast, lunch and dinner as well as snacks if you need) Melon and chickenbreast salad Zucchini with Basil Salad Pasta salad with Avocado Dolmades Vegetable Casserole Savoury Crepes Stuffed potatoes with baked beans Soya Bean burgers Stuffed capsicums Banana Mousse (Yes desserts!) Baked Apples in Skins Couscous cake with Berries Berry Nice salad Okay, that is just a small sampling of her recipes in here. She outlines this 8 week cleanse very well and even includes how to get a veggie stock, eggless mayonaise, simple tomato sauce etc. I can assure you that eventually you will acquire a taste for lighter foods....but you must adjust your system slowly. I eat comfort foods, definitely! I use organic ingredients to make myself a treat on occassion. I figure I can either loose my head and grab something from the market that is filled with garbage, or indulge myself in a nice homemade something from organic ingredients. If you like molasses, I do believe I have a recipe tucked around here somewhere...it was one I used frequently back in the days when I first started...the molasses is good for the nutritious content. Sorry for taking up so much space in one post! Hope this helps. Have a Happy and Healthy New Year Sincerely, Lulu - Vanadeux Gettingwell Monday, December 31, 2001 11:42 AM Some inspiration please? An excellent way to get your enzymes and other nutrients still intact. And, much easier to prepare than salads actually. Guest guest
Geez...hadn't really thought about it, but anything would be nice. I'm in the Northern U.S. of A. and we are frozen stiff right about now! LOL Oh BTW, thanks for the link (cholesterol myth)! That was great material and just confirms what I've been reading all along! How can they get away with it? Public deception at it's worst. Guest guest
Anne, I am not a raw foodist, but am trying to convert my diet to at least 75% raw. Mainly because I like hot herbal tea and soy products. You mentioned fruits and veggies, but seemed to have forgotten nuts and seed. I've visited a couple of nice sites that offer inspiration, recipes, raw journey journals, and book suggestion. They follow: http://www.rawtimes.com/recipes.html http://www.shazzie.com/ http://www.rawgourmet.com/ http://www.rawfoodchef.com/ HTH, good luck Bea Email: bhurd Vanadeux [vanadeux] Monday, December 31, 2001 10:42 AM Gettingwell Some inspiration please? Guest guest
If you consume 75% of your diet in the form of raw foods, you are a raw food eater. You aren't a " strict " raw food adherent, unless you eat raw food 100% of the time. I eat one or two servings of high omega 3-rich fish meal(s) a week; which translates to between 1 in 15, to 1 in 30 meals a week that are not strictly vegetarian. Nearly all vegetarians would say I had betrayed their cause. But, fortunately, I can define myself the way I please; even if everyone else disagrees with me; and I still consider myself a vegetarian; just not a " strict " one. I also consume about 1/2 a serving of alcohol a month; and have the nerve to consider myself a non-drinker. The boozers agree with me, the teetotalers are alarmed at my self-indulgence. Such is society. - " B. Hurd " <bhurd Wednesday, January 02, 2002 7:26 AM RE: Some inspiration please? > Anne, > > I am not a raw foodist, but am trying to convert my diet to at least 75% > raw.
