Thank you for this info, I will put Vit A on my list. Donna - why are you so afraid of Vit A? Marianne > I have very dry eyes. Guest guest
I have very dry eyes. Some nights I wake up with eyes so dry they actually burn so badly I can hardly open them. I just started to research this this morn. Ron http://www.altdryeyes.com/dryeyes.htm An excerpt: Note: before beginning a regimen of vitamin A or beta-carotene, have your thyroid activity checked by your doctor. Hypothyroid patients - people with underactive thyroids - are always vitamin A deficient. They cannot convert beta-carotene to vitamin A, nor can they convert vitamin A to the form usable by the eyes. One way to check this yourself is to take your temperature under your arm when you wake up in the morning, but before you get out of bed. If it is regularly below 97.8 F degrees , you might have any underactive thyroid. *** P.S. This a.m. my underarm temp. was 96.8. _____________ Get the FREE email that has everyone talking at http://www.mail2world.com
Guest guest
Hi Ron! How is your intake of GLA (gamma-linolenic acid)? GLA has a positive effect on dry eyes. Other areas that can benefit from this omega-6 fat are viral infections, arthritis, PSM symtoms and skins disorders. Pam the desert_rat <ron wrote: I have very dry eyes. Guest guest
Hi Pam, I do take two a day of 500 mg Black Current Seed Oil capsules. That supplies 140 mg of GLA. I started them about 5 or 6 mos. ago for the fingernails that were weak and splitting (thyroid symptom?). After about 6 weeks the nails started getting stronger and now they are quite good. Of course a balance has to be maintained with omega-6 and omega-3 so I started eating more sardines and canned atlantic salmon for the omega-3. Have no idea how this balances but there it is. Is 140 mg enough? It really does make a difference in the fingernails. Guest guest
Hi Ron! Borage oil appears to be the most economical and practical choice for GLA. A single capsule usually contain 300 mg of GLA. For a therapeutic effect, about 300 mg of GLA daily is the minimum requirement (though some conditions, such as rheumatoid arthritis, need at least 1,400 mg per day in order to improve). I had a severe dry skin condition that healed up nicely with 2/300 caps of borage a day. Maybe upping your daily dose is necessary. BTW, I had the same experience with my nails as you did. Guest guest
Real good Pam, Looks good to me. I'll increase my current seed oil 'till gone and then switch to Borage.
