Guest guest
Evening Vache, >Perhaps so, though it still comes out cheaper than the typical 99 >cents a pound the average person pays in the health food store:-) What do you consider the ideal quantity to order at one time? Also, what is the amount one would use per day, 2 to 3 ounces? Wayne
Guest guest
Uhm, well, gosh Wayne, I really do not have an answer for you. Remember, I buy flax seed by the 50# sacks for I feed it to horses; & then I myself eat the stuff like candy & let's just say I have a really " flax " tooth. LOL. Sorry I do not have a real answer for you. FYI ALL, for the horses I normally boil it till it turns into a jelly like consistency. Geez, don't let it boil over for it makes hideous mess! Or if I am too rushed I run it through a coffee grinder. Myself I eat it by the handful (eing sure to chew well) I feed my dog the Missing Links supplement & it has a lot of flax in it. I always have wondered if it is whole ground flax with the oils still in; or if it is the hulls of the flax after the oil has already been pressed out of it -say like after making Udo's Choice oil. I know I used to buy a lot of flax seed hulls from Barlean's & Omega Nutrition both after they had already been cold pressed for their oils to add protein content to the horse feed... What benefit would boiled flax have for your horses Vache? Heat destroys EFAs. Is there another reason? Guest guest
Something in flax is neutralized when boiled, thus why horse people do so for their charges. I'll have to dig back through old info to tell you exactly what it is. Give me time. Besides, when fed whole to horses they poop out 99% undigested anyway, thus a huge waste of monies.
