Guest guest
Monday night I'm travelling to Rochester, MN to see the nutrition scientist I've been working with for three years. We've had several health challenges in our family he's helped us through. I need to go back further to help others understand why he's been important in our lives. Most of my life since toddlerhood, I've had hypothyroidism and related health problems. Once I found out about natural foods shortly before I got married, I began a search to find answers to ongoing health problems I found myself dealing with, repeated colds, bronchitis, pneumonia which became almost yearly. Then I had my first miscarriage which the dr. told me was related to my low thyroid. He was unusual in that he encouraged home birth. After my third miscarriage, and eventual birth of that twin, my health went downhill rapidly. This same dr. encouraged me to seek alternative care. When we did, we found out that I was dealing with cancer. That battle lasted almost a year, we tried various methods, read tons of books and tried this and that, and finally worked with a Reams person. We tried many supplements, and juicing, and some of the suggestions mentioned in " Cancer Winner " . What I went through, I wouldn't wish on anyone, but the day came when my lab tests came back " cancer free " . I had another miscarriage at 4 months, actually the baby died and got reabsorbed, and I was sick for months. Then we were blessed with our miracle daughter, and our hopes were up. Unfortunately, within a few years, after a move to where we live now, I had signs of a miscarriage, but a month later the test was still positive. At five months, I miscarried, and almost lost my life due a " septic infection " . We had a surprise pregnancy, (my tsh was 191 so it was totally unexpected) and I had another daughter. When she wasn't even one years old, I ended up in the hospital with double pneumonia, which led to asthma. We had another surprise pregnancy,(again related to low thyroid) and interestingly enough, after her birth, the pulmonary specialist told me, the asthma was in remission due to the birth. Then once again my health started going downhill. I finally found someone else to test my tsh levels, and actually listen to me, and that dr. told me that my body wasn't absorbing the Synthroid they put me on in the hospital. I asked if I could go back on Armour, and he agreed. At this point, a friend gave me the name of a Reams dr. in MN, we went to him, and he told me my lab nos. were really abnormal, and referred me to a dr. who had trained under Carey Reams. We again had just found out we were expecting, but the dr. didn't give us much hope for making it through. We went to see the Reams dr. and took the recommended supplements, and made it all the way through the pregnancy, although the birth was difficult. I did start feeling better though, due to being on the Armour. My Reams dr. disappeared, and I tried various things on my own, constantly reading, especially about the thyroid. When symptoms began getting out of hand, I finally got in touch with the 1st Reams dr. I answered his 20 ?'s and he told me to go straight to my dr. and get a thyroid test. I did, and it was over 100. My dr. was out of town, but his sub called and told me I was near coma level, to increase meds and rest. My own dr. called raised them another half, and told me to come back in SIX months. By the way, I had lost my appetite before this, wasn't eating more than one small meal a day and had gained 75 pounds. Then once again, though my cycles were normal, I conceived on the day before it was due. I felt great, was using the Dr. Schulze supplements, cleansers, etc. so it was quite a surprise when at four months I began hemorrhaging. Having gone through homebirths and m/c's at home, it was the same with this mc. I grabbed the cayenne(liquid), downed a few dropperfuls, which probably saved my life, and wept as I saw my little baby(a perfectly formed baby boy). I wasn't bouncing back, and at Thanksgiving 98, my brother told me about the nutrition scientist. He had waited a year before trying anything. What interested him, is that his wife tried his supplement pack from his briefcase, and at her next tsh test, was told to reduce her meds. It happened again, and after meeting with the NS, they realized it was that pack that was the only difference. I agreed to be 3-wayed, explained my situation, and received a regimen over the phone. I started taking it, and the next time I received my tsh, it had gone from 100 down to 6. Then I started gaining weight, and began having moles bleeding. The guy that first arranged the phone call, did so again, and the NS added a non-toxic selenium to my regimen, and told me to see what happened in 72 hours. I had 9 moles bleeding and by the end of that 72 hours, they all stopped. A month later after talking to some Mayo drs about his research, he also made some presentations in Midwest cities. He made a brief stop in the city I live and spoke to a group of 25 here, before going on to Appleton, WI, where he spoke to a much larger group. In that audience was my brother-in-law, who ended up needing the info he heard about cancer that night. A week later, I found a new mole bleeding, saw a dr. who felt it was suspicious, and referred me to a specialist. In the meantime, I contacted the NS. This time I was given a full-fledged cancer regimen. By the time the specialist saw me, it was around five weeks. He examined me, then told me he was baffled, had never seen anything like this. He had me explain what I had done, and I told him about the regimen, including the selenium. He lectured me about those amounts being toxic, but I explained about the clinical research, and the NS presentation at the American Association of Cancer Research in PA to several hundred oncologists about the study that used the non-toxic selenium. Before I left, he told me if I ever had anymore symptoms, to see the NS first, then him. I was feeling great, had many comments about how healthy I looked, and due to a financial pinch, decided to cut way back on my regimen temporarily. When I had my next tsh it was over 120, and my local dr. refused to raise my meds, accusing me of not taking them. I immediately contacted the NS, and was told first to find a new dr, next was given a regimen to help the low hypothyroidism, and told to get a lab test again soon. I finally found a dr, but meanwhile was able to get a lab test locally at 4 months. It was down to 2tsh. The new dr. switched me to Synthroid and Cytomel and I ended up with chest pains. Because of the contact with the NS coordinating his visits with Mayo, he had suggested I get in there. I finally did in Dec.99. He told me to get rid of all my supplements, but I didn't. In the middle of all this I had developed serious dental problems and had 4 teeth extracted. Unfortunately I didn't know I was pregnant. We made it to 11 weeks, but I spotted and at 12 weeks miscarried. Again the cayenne was a life-saver. I developed an infection which normally would have caused me to be in the hospital, but I went to see the NS personally when he was in IA, and with the supplements he recommended was able to avoid it. When I finally saw a dr. for follow-up, she was impressed at my blood count. The Mayo dr. didn't understand that the supplements were helping me and refused to lower my meds. I ended up in the ER here rather than at Mayo, and the ER dr. told me I was being overmedicated, and had become severely hyperthyroid. My Mayo dr. later lowered them, but at my last visit with him, I was still at .02 tsh. He finally acknowledged that my supplements were indeed making a difference. He had heard about the new complementary alt. medicine task force at Mayo, but wasn't interested in it himself. During this time the NS was abroad, so I didn't have his help. He came back, and had been researching, and in spring of this year, I was able to see him in person, and fine-tuned a regimen. Since then when he makes it to Rochester, or other MN cities, we try to attend the presentation and speak with him afterwards. I am trying to find a dr. who can work with me using the supplements, because I have shown, that when properly monitored, I have been able to lower my need of the meds. Properly monitored is not once a year, or every six months. My new dr. here lowered my meds, my tsh went up, and I still haven't heard from her after several months. Last time my tsh was 9, too high to maintain a pregnancy, and I lost twins this time. I found a way to have a home tsh test, and after being faithful to my regimen brought it down to 5.6. My goal is 1.5. Getting my health back is a process, but since I met the NS I haven't had pneumonia, and bronchitis only lasted a few days, compared to a month,(it was caused by an allergic reaction to bleach). I will save my husband's blood poisoning experience, my b-i-l's leukemia, and eye injury recovery for a different email. Also that of a son's ear injury/infection. I am very grateful for the privilege of knowing and being able to meet with the nutrition scientist when he is here in the Midwest. There is no charge for the presentation, nor any consultations after the meeting. Mayo is currently initiating some clinical studies around the research he has done. I believe we will hear some specifics at the presentation tomorrow night. I still do research myself, but my supplement needs have been overall meet through the ones researched by this NS. I have begun using the coconut oil, and will relate that in another email. I'm sure I have left out details, but this is way too long, and I don't know how to shorten it. I left out a lot as it is. I would be glad to try answer questions, and if anyone within driving distance to Rochester can make it, would like to meet you. We will be there tomorrow night. Dr. Hsia, and Dr. Yang, a pediatric asthmalogist/allergist dr. who has written nutritional books, and a newsletter, will be there at the Country Inn Suites at 7pm. Thanks for your patience in reading this. I have been reading the emails and have learned a lot already. Patricia
