Guest guest
Hi Dorothy, It is not his email address that I need but the email that the virus came in on - however, reading a couple more emails today about the virus, it seems that it was from a 'private' email and not a group one - I have now cleared all emails and luckily do not have a virus problem. Thanks for responding. Guest guest
Frank - thank you for your message - I am not trying to sell anything, I am not even trying to get Lee's 'private' email - I was trying to find out exactly which email it was that contained the virus - as the warning to Lee was sent to the group, I assumed it was an email that Lee had sent to the group that had caused the problem. As I have said, I have cleared all my emails and no virus detected so no problem. Please do keep the group free from SPAM and MLM, I cannot agree more. Thanks Marianne > Dear Dorothy, Marianne and group, > > As to the members database for email addresses, I will try and > explain. >
Guest guest
Hi Marianne, you will have to ask Frank how to get to the *members* file as i see it is not listed there any more. I hope he can help as i also need someones private email. Regards, Dorothy.
Guest guest
Dear Dorothy, Marianne and group, As to the members database for email addresses, I will try and explain. This group was started so that there would be a place on the internet that was not backed by someone selling a product, book or whatever. A good percentage of the larger groups are themed around one product or book and tied into a money making scheme of some type even though it may be a very subtle effort. This is not evident at first glance as they appear to be just about based on exchanging information. But all to often what happens is one side is pushing from a sales point of view (very subltely) and the other is trying to find a best choice from a health point of view. This is exctly what happens in the pharmacuetical industry in their choice of promoting their drugs. (theirs may not be the best choice for the consumer but it is the best choice from their business viewpoint. When that occurs you get biased information to push one point of view, not because it is the most correct but to promote and sell whatever it is the person or group will benefit monetarily from. One MLM person who tried to spam this group with their products couldn't understand the " real " reason about the purpose of the group. She said that there had to be an ulterior motive for the group. In her opinion, no one would have a real reason to put in the effort to start and run the group if they didnt get some money compensation in the bargain somewhere. This person promoted herself as a nutritional counselor of 20 years " helping " people and having a web site with a number of " counselors " that gave " free " personal health information to individuals. From what I could see the info usually eventually got down to the specific products that that they were pushing. On the other hand most members join because of a desire to benefit their health or specific condition and they honestly try and help one another out. Unfortunately what happens in some cases is that the one poses as the other. Thus the few wolves don sheeps clothing to infiltrate the flock. I firmly believe in free speach and openness. But I don't believe in subterfuge and taking advantage of people in a desperate situation about their health. These people don't come here and say " I'm here to sell you a product " . They say (implied usually) " i'm here to help you, here is my solution for you " (to buy my product, just not quite that openly). One such individual admitted that he belonged to over 150 groups, yet he knew very little about nutrition and health except for the " sales " spiel he had down about his own product. I am not anti- business. Just be honest about, when it is business. The tip off is usually I'm here to help you send me your money (although much more subtlely). I had to restrict the members list from the open group after a few people complained to me about receiving spam about some MLM products from other members. I hope someday this will no longer be necessary. This list is for the members, NOT a personal hunting preserve for the unscrupulous spammer We may wind up with a smaller group, but I don't think we will have much of a loss in my book. Another reason for the group is cross polinating of information. There are some very good groups out there that are usually started and ran by people who have a personal vs. business interest, (though not always) but they are usually for a specific illness or condition such as fibromyalgia, CFS, IBS, Chron's, colitus, candida. I believe all or most of these diseases are caused by similiar circumstances ( although it may be hard to discern at first) and are cured by the same thing. Thsi is believed to be true of many many diseases. In those individual groups the members are so closely focused on their little part of the problem with their medically given label that they are severly restricted in the information that they get in a more broader range that could be applicable to them. (it's not for me, I don't have Chron " s, I have IBS, see.... different label) This group is so there will be cross pollination of information and sharing of remedies while at the same time trying to minimize the potential misinformation efforts of the special interest business point of view. I wish we lived in a much more caring altruistic world, but this is what we have to work with. If anyone needs any information for a legitamate purpose, I will try to assist and be helpfull as much as I can. with the utmost respect for the members, Frank Gettingwell, marianne2406@a... wrote: > Hi Dorothy, > It is not his email address that I need but the email that the virus came in > on - however, reading a couple more emails today about the virus, it seems > that it was from a 'private' email and not a group one - I have now cleared > all emails and luckily do not have a virus problem. Which is strange because I didn't receive an attachment and I dont have Outlook. So, now I'm using my servers virus scan before it gets to my email program and Im also using nortons as a backup. Guest guest
Dear Marianne, Thank you for your support and I never meant you personally were trying to sell something. I'm sorry if you got that impression. I'm not personally against selling something. I guess It's a lot in the way that they do it sometimes. I believe it has to be balanced by our social responsibility to our fellow man/woman also. Some just allow their personal greed to overshadow thier thinking in this area. I was in business for many years and I understand the desire to make money. I don't approve of the misrepresentation that goes on in a lot of instances though. I reread what I wrote and would also like to say that it was not a blanket condemnation of all books or authors either. I read wonderfull books that are authored by very, very well meaning people who I am very gratefull that they shared the information with me and the public. I wouldn't have a clue about most things if I hadn't bought some book on the subject. I also didn't want to give the wrong impression in that area either. warm regards, Frank P.S. JUst an aside for people residing in the US. but you can get a wealth of information cheaply at www.half.com . But they only have it configured to operate in the USA at this point. It is a book exchange/marketplace ran by ebay. The sellers are from all over the USA and they sell used books for very low prices sometimes. You will usually get a much more thourough coverage in a book on the subject than can be found on the web's much shorter information mode. (although I consider the internet " THE " superlative mode for information sharing and communication) Just last week I bought 2 books by world class scientists in paperback , that amounted to a few dollars each and the books we're in almost perfect condition. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Gettingwell, marianne2406@a... wrote: > Frank - thank you for your message - I am not trying to sell anything, I am > not even trying to get Lee's 'private' email - I was trying to find out > exactly which email it was that contained the virus - as the warning to Lee > was sent to the group, I assumed it was an email that Lee had sent to the > group that had caused the problem. Guest guest
I use Norton 2001 antivirus program. It scans email and attachments as they are being downloaded into my computer. Twice, before I opened email, a message popped up and informed me that a virus had been found. There is the option of what to do with it, but I deleted them and went on as if nothing had happened. As stated, the only information I was after was about an email that I thought had gone out to the group. Your explanation was appreciated. Guest guest
I do not represent any anti-virus software manufacturer. If it is made properly, there should be no problem to installing it properly - with Norton, just follow the instructions on the screen. I am living virus-free. Norton stopped two viruses dead in their tracks. It even scans attachments coming in with emails. Guest guest
Norton is supposed to be looking for updates continually, but I still update as soon as I access the net and before I load my browser. If you do not update frequently, a virus may get through because you have not yet downloaded it's definition. Morton Kate Strong wrote: > So does mine.
