Guest guest
Thank you Greg - I hope you don't mind, but I have posted your suggestions to a friend of mine in USA to see what he thinks. He heads up the IRD List group via Internet, for parents of children with Zellwegers, NALD and IRD, and he knows heaps about Peroxisomal disorders. He is not a doctor, but very knowledgeable. I wanted to see what he thinks, as he is always open to new ideas as to how to help our kids. He gives his son walnut oil, so I know he would find what you have to say interesting. As soon as he replies, I will post you again. The DHA Beks is on, is from Martec. It is full of other rubbish that she doesn't need. I will check out the site that you gave me. She has all her meds in one hit. No-one has told me otherwise. She has the DHA and Walnut oil together. Should I give them separately for the time being? Thank you, thank you. I will be in touch. The big thing about the walnut oil is the amoun of the active EPA produced from this oil is variable and most of the Omega 3 LNA is wasted. Have you had a red blood cell membrane fatty acid analysis done? I consider this information to be highly critical as this is direct feedback on how Bek is handling the various fatty acids in the diet. ======================== Good Health & Long Life, Greg Watson, gowatson USDA database (food breakdown) http://www.nal.usda.gov/fnic/foodcomp/ PubMed (research papers) http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi DWIDP (nutrient analysis) http://www.walford.com/dwdemo/dw2b63demo.exe KIM (omega analysis) http://ods.od.nih.gov/eicosanoids/KIM_Install.exe
Guest guest
Hi Greg & Tracy You mentioned delta-4-desaturase being to low to convert 24:6w3 to 22:6w3. I thought this might be of interest about D5d and D6d. It apparently requires the pre enzymes vitamin C, niacin and zinc for D5d to convert the FAs. And B6, magnesium and zinc for D6d to work. I have not found what pre enzymes are required for D4d. Guest guest
- " Richard Muenzer " <r.muenzer Wednesday, November 28, 2001 1:45 PM Re: wow! > Hi Greg & Tracy > > You mentioned delta-4-desaturase being to low to convert 24:6w3 to > 22:6w3. Other way around. It was thought that D4D did the 22:5w3 (DPA) to 22:6w3 (DHA) conversion but this has now been found to be not so and the conversion to DHA is done via the peroxisome beta oxidation from 24:6w3. So D4D actually converts 24:5w3 to 24:6w3 and not 22:5w3 to 22:6w3 and beta oxidation in the peroxisome converts 24:6w3 to the shorter form 22:6w3 (DHA). I know it might be confusing but if it was just D4D involved, there would be no need for peroxisome beta conversion and not ALD. Either way D4D is involved. > I thought this might be of interest about D5d and D6d. > It apparently requires the pre enzymes vitamin C, niacin and zinc > for D5d to convert the FAs. And B6, magnesium and zinc for D6d to work. > I have not found what pre enzymes are required for D4d. There is more involved than this as these enzymes are in a control system which works (via negative feedback) to keep the converted products at certain levels. ======================== Good Health & Long Life, Greg Watson, gowatson USDA database (food breakdown) http://www.nal.usda.gov/fnic/foodcomp/ PubMed (research papers) http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi DWIDP (nutrient analysis) http://www.walford.com/dwdemo/dw2b63demo.exe KIM (omega analysis) http://ods.od.nih.gov/eicosanoids/KIM_Install.exe
Guest guest
Richard We are probably going to take this off list, as it might be boring everyone by now - and over most peoples heads - incl. mine at times. Did you want to be kept updated on the conversations?
