I have two friends who live some distance away, and who I see once every

two or three years. Last night I got a phone call from G. Both of them

have been ill, and it is looking quite serious. I need diet and

treatment suggestions for them. Briefly the situation is:

B had a stroke and lost the use of her legs. Since then, she has

regained some use, but lost weight and now has ulcers on the legs. Bad

ones that have been there for over a year. She has used honey on them,

although it caused great pain. Cannot put her legs up, because she has

a bad hip and ends up in worse pain. Has spent the last few nights

sitting downstairs because she cannot stand the pain caused by lying

down. G rang me because a nurse has been talking about amputation. I

suggested large doses of Vitamin E and C. B cannot try to walk much

because of the pain from the ulcers. One is on the toe and she cannot

put pressure on it. There is disagreement as to whether she has

arterial or venous BP probs in the legs. Nurse put on BP test and said

arterial. Doc looked at toes peeping out of bandages and said doesn't

look arterial at all????

G is very overweight, and in the midst of all this was hit by high blood

pressure. Docs put him on tablets which disagreed with him, buzzing in

head, eyes felt as if popping out, dizziness. Each batch of tablets

seem to have some side effects. I hesitate to suggest flaxseed oil /

cottage cheese because of the weight problem, but something is needed

because he is getting more and more bad tempered.

They are vegetarian, although not sure how strict. They are too ill to

follow a complicated diet or treatment regime. G will munch all day,

but B has little appetite.

Anyone got any suggestions?
