depression - inositol?

Has anyone here tried or heard of someone trying inositol to relieve

depression and OCD? I have a big tendency toward depression, and a

slight tendency for OCD, and heard that inositol might help...

The only time I've ever approached normal was when I tried Zoloft for a

few months while in college. That was also the only time I've ever

taken any clinical drugs for depression. St. John's Wort may or may not

be helping - it's hard to tell... Anyway, I'd like to stay away from

clinical drugs as much as possible. *ramble*

Hi Mindy!

Psychotropic drugs such as Zoloft are highly

neuron-toxic and should be avoided at all costs.

A more effective and safer antidepressant is SAM

(s-adenosyl methionine). It is a metabolite of the

standard amino acid L-methionine. A dose of

800-1,600 mg per day can help to elevate mood and

disposition among ppl who are clinically depressed.

Also, eliminating sugar and refined foods from your

diet will help ( " Sugar Blues " by William Dufty).

I would jump in and try it. I began taking Taurine and

unbelievably

my daily anxiety went away completely. And I was taking an

antidepressant

at that time, it didn't do much but make me sleep. I am still on a

little

dose of an antidepressant, to help me sleep. Taurine is an amino

acid.

Suggestions:

1. cave-man diet (low-carb, avoidance of common allergens such as grains and

dairy)

2. regular exercise

3. 5 grams or more of fish oil (from deep ocean sources) per day

4. The amino acids Tyrosine and Tryptophan (5HTP) (500 mg of each as needed)

5. large doses of B6, magnesium, and of course, a 50-100 B complex.
