Guest guest
My husband has had a numb hand and arm for about 3 years now. He's in the computer field, and he does use one of those arm rest thingies with his keyboard. He went to a specialist last year to take a $1,000 test that said that he doesn't have carpal tunnel, but no diagnosis. Any thoughts? -- Mindy ----------------------- " ...that they may be one... Guest guest
mindy, my thoughts regarding your husband's hand and arm......i would suggest he contact a licensed massage therapist. massage is a highly under- rated alternative therapy, and also very low cost. its totally non-intrusive, and oftentimes immediately effective, though repeated visits may be needed to completely restore the natural order of the body. very often problems arise when the same motions are repeated over and over again, and a lot of these kinds of problems can be corrected with massage. for example, many medical doctors now send their patients for massage therapy to prevent surgery for rotator cuff problems (the shoulder hurts and it's too painful to lift the arm) . massage may not be the answer for your husband, but then again, it may bring relief. namaste, pam
Guest guest
Hi Mindy You don't use any hydrogenated oils do you? They tend to " plug up " blood vessels. I find that when i don't exercise - all my body parts will go numb much quicker. The harder i exercise the less numbness and more blood flow. Guest guest
Have you tried seeing a chiropractor? There you may find help. Funny how a spine out of alignment could contribute to this. Guest guest
He has probably damaged the nerves in his hands and arms. I don't know how to fix that. maybe Vitamin B6? That is what works for Carpal Tunnel, even though I know you said it is not that. Sounds similar though. He needs to rest it so it will heal...is he doing that? Guest guest
My left arm will go numb for several days within 30 seconds of walking into the hardware store down the street, but then I'm Chemicaly Sensitive and have a wide range of problems to different toxins... some perfume makes my lips go numb etc. ,,,when I was working out carpal tunnel that I had for about a dozen years I used cayanne pepper, and found magnets and far infra red ceramic wrap material helped a lot, the FIR wraps can be found through nikken.com and Takionic (Tachyon Inc) So are there others with Chemical Sensitivy on this list? What then happens is that a very small cellular inflammation effect from external substances, causes way too large a response for the stimulus. You can either get a red blood cell membrane fatty acid analysis or use KIM to analyse your diet for Omega 6 to Omega 3 balance or try to eliminate ALL Omega 6 LA rich oil based products AND eliminate ALL Omega 6 AA rich foods (red meat, eggs, etc) from your diet AND get 2 - 3 serves a week of EPA + DHA rich fish (salmon, tuna, herring, mackerel, etc) with either cod liver oil or fish oil capsules on non fish eating days. The KIM software is probably your best first shot as it is free and will allow you to " Test " your diet. KIM: http://ods.od.nih.gov/eicosanoids/KIM_Install.exe (12mb download but well worth it!) Guest guest
Mindy, I used to wake up with numb arms if I slept with my arm lifted up next to my head. I was always told that there was nothing wrong with me (but I was hypothyroid). When I saw a naturopath, she suggested Vitamin B12 shots to improve my energy and for the numbness. It worked great for the numbness. I now have the B12 shots regularly and find that if I go 2 to 3 weeks without a shot the numbness comes back.>> This happens to me..somewhat, though I am in good physical shape and daily take Vit B vitamins including large dose B12 (sometimes " sublingual " meaning the little pills you put under your tongue for better absorption). My arms aren't fully " asleep " but what it is with me: the arm that I wake up " laying my head on " has much reduced sensation. Just as a joke, I have toyed with the idea of wearing on my shoulders and upper arms a thick padding which is plastic underneathe. It would not be hard to rig-up such a device. That would cushion the weight of my head on the compressed arm, and it SHOULD eliminate the numbness. Someday...I may try that. ..
Guest guest
Hello everyone, Mindy, I used to wake up with numb arms if I slept with my arm lifted up next to my head. I was always told that there was nothing wrong with me (but I was hypothyroid). When I saw a naturopath, she suggested Vitamin B12 shots to improve my energy and for the numbness. It worked great for the numbness. I now have the B12 shots regularly and find that if I go 2 to 3 weeks without a shot the numbness comes back. So I would suggest that you research Vitamin B12 for his husband and that he tries B12 therapy. Also, I suggest that you learn about hypothyroid symptoms as the majority of medical doctors do not know how to diagnose hypothyroidism very well. A good starting point is: thyroid.about.com Good luck, Reem , Mindy Behymer <mindy wrote: > > My husband has had a numb hand and arm for about 3 years now. Guest guest
B12 should be taken with the B-Complex if buying it from a Health or drug store. I was deficient in B12, had the same symptoms of Iron Anemia. I take B12 liquid drops with my multi vitamin. I was told at the Health Food store liquid enters in the body faster then the tablets. Guest guest
Neck and shoulder problems can cause hand and arm numbness. I can tell by where the numbness starts and what direction it spreads whether I need to go to my chiropractor to have my neck/shoulder blade adjusted or just go to the freezer for an icepack. I was also in the tech field. One of the things that I often found myself doing was resting the elbow of my non-dominant hand on the desk so I could rest my chin on the hand. That would always cause my dominant hand to go numb. Another problem is leaning on the armchairs on one side only while mousing. Many tech folk get into lots of trouble over simple ergonomics so checking with a good chiropractor or a physical therapist to rule out RSI's might be worthwhile. cheers, Mary , Mindy Behymer <mindy wrote: > > My husband has had a numb hand and arm for about 3 years now. Guest guest
Hello everyone, Some people may not be able to absorb the B12 vitamin through the digestive system. For this reason, to be sure one is getting the B12 it is good to try taking it through intra muscular injection. This is what worked for me. Guest guest
I am a LMT, and have been for 10 years... I have several clients who have come in with this same thing and say their chiro will not help so I have done massage therapy and stretchs to help rid my clients of this problem i also at times get it and i just have one of my therapist work on me and the problem goes away. stretching is a key to any job. Most problems now adays are with the sholder and arms because of more and more peole working on computers so over the years I have seen a change in peoples problems.. so go see a Massage therapist and have them do shiatsu and trigger point to it you will see a huge difference....good luck , " yankeeexile " <md. wrote: > > Neck and shoulder problems can cause hand and arm numbness.
